C-Section

My BFF's baby is breech so the c-section has been scheduled.  I want to get her a gift when I go visit.  Anything particularly helpful or comforting for a c-section mama? I was thinking of getting her some comfy lounge wear, but would have to be careful of where it hit.  Anything magic out there that worked for you?

Re: C-Section

  • I had a c-section but cannot think of any particular product that helped.  Maybe a gift certificate to a local restaurant that delivers so she won't have to cook.
  • I can't think of anything specific for a c-section recovery...just the usual new parent stuff like, food, restaurant GC, etc.  The incision is really low, so unless the comfy pants are super low riding, they should be fine!
  • The only real differences between my c-section recovery and my VBAC recovery was the time it took to recover and the lifting/exertion limits after the c. The best thing you could do for your friend is a few chores - run the vacuum, wash some laundry, feed pets, get and unload groceries, make dinner, etc. I appreciated that a lot more than presents, truthfully.

  • I bought my BFF a boppy for her shower. She had an unexpected C and she said the boppy was very helpful for sitting with the baby. She said it also helped b/c it fit around her waist and she could use it to guard against the pain from coughing or laughing.

  • I have had two c-sections, also bc of a breeched baby.  If you are thinking lounge wear, make sure it is elastic!  And this is nuts, but I used maxi pads (like huge ones!) to put over the incision and then put the elastic pants over top of that.  If you are close enough friends, get her a box, she will thank you!  :)  You could get her a lighter summer robe.  I got mine at Target several years ago and actually still wear it!  It wasnt tight around my incision, it was lighter for the summer so I could wear it instead of getting dressed and still be cooler, and it was perfect for nursing!
