Stinky water shoes

I bought these shoes for the kids a few weekends ago:

They were a great deal (only $6.39 after coupon!) But after wearing them once and then leaving them on the porch to dry they STINK!  We took the kids to Raccoon swimming yesterday and smelled something awful in the truck (before swimming) and finally figured out it was the kid's shoes.

Do you think washing them in regular detergent will get the stink out?

Should I be doing something differently after they use them?

Re: Stinky water shoes

  • Maybe washing them with vinegar and/or baking soda?  Febreeze?
  • Soak them in oxyclean?

  • I am guessing the stink is from something organic from the water- I would start with something like Natures Miracle, spray them really well and then let them sit a while.  Wash them normally after.
  • My sons were stinky after running through a sprinkler last year. I don't have advice as we ended up throwing his out because they smelled so awful. They were inexpensive and kinda of falling apart anyway. I think the suggestions you already received are helpful - hopefully they work!!
