Name dilemma , opinions needed!
Ok for those of you that have named children or have your future children's name picked out how did you know it was "the one"?! I'm starting to panic about his name!
We both absolutely love the name Tyrion (yes from Game of Thrones) And decided season 1 of the show we would use it as a boys first name. Now that it's real I couldn't decide if I really wanted to use the name as a first name mainly because I feel people would judge us for using a character name. We decided on Declan as his first name with Tyrion as the middle name but now I'm thinking I want to go back to using Tyrion! I absolutely love it and it is my first choice (my husbands too).
So a second question would you judge someone for using a "character name" for there child ? I'm probably over thinking this but wanted opinions!!
Re: Name dilemma , opinions needed!
I would never judge someone for that. Seriously, it doesn't matter where you heard the name, if you like it, that's that. You're going to get comments no matter what you name your kid, but really it's your choice. DH and I did the yell test for which names we liked. If you feel better yelling, "Tyrion, pick up your legos!" more than, "Declan, go to your room!" then that is the clear choice. LOL!
Also, the girl's name we picked out is River. Yes, I got it from Firefly/Serenity. The character has nothing to do with why we like that name, we just heard it and liked it.
Omg I love the yell text @goatlady12!
And if people want to bag on you for naming your son after a book character, just think that most people with really common first names - John, James, Mark, Mary, Rebecca, Elizabeth, just to name a few - are all named after characters from the Bible! Granted the Bible is a tad more important than GoT, but isn't it basically the same thing?
Oh no, I hope that doesn't mean the name gets really popular.
@goatlady12 -I love the idea of the yell test. Lol
I am in a similar name problem. I have always loved the name Jack. Now that I'm pregnant, I hate it and H contributes no names because he claims he came up with a girl name. He suggested it. We discussed and mutually agreed. He doesn't remember those other steps.
I wouldn't judge someone for choosing a name based on a book character. We did that with our dog
That said we didn't find out until DD was born what we were having and her name is Georgiana but if she had been a boy she would have been Bailey Holden and Holden is the name of the character in catcher in the rye (or whatever it's called) we obviously did not pick it because of that book but people probably would have made the association.
Both her full name now and the boy name we picked were based solely on family members. My dad was George so Georgiana...she shares my middle name. And my maiden name was Bailey and DH's 4x great grandpa was Holden.
So name your child after whoever you choose. :-)
