Spinoff: Stinky Shoes, in general

G has some stank feet. Last summer we experienced this issue with Keens and after googling last year I read that it was very common in Keens. However, this summer he has Stride Rite sandals and still has stinky shoes.

Anything in general I can do about this? I've tried washing the shoes. I've Lysoled them. I've soaked then in vinegar...still stinky.

The commonality between the Keens and the Stride Rites are they're both closed-toe sandals. Could that be the issue? There's plenty of ventilation. We don't notice this when he wears shoes with socks.

Re: Spinoff: Stinky Shoes, in general

  • My brother has issues with some of these sandals, it's a reaction to the anti-bacterial stuff some of them use.

Vagisil powder works wonders on stinky shoes.
  • Thanks, Amber! I'll try vagisil powder, I'm desperate. His feet were making me nauseous in the car over the weekend.

I don't have a cure for the sandals but I do for the feet.

Michael has stinky sandals at times. I never noticed this with Jackson. I ended up ordering a spray someone recommended to me called No More Stinky Feet to spray in his shoes. it helped.

  • Dd has been wearing her pedipeds everyday for about a month now and no stink yet.  I threw them in the wash machine about 2 weeks ago.  Are his machine washable?

  • They are and they've been washed. I was so happy when I they came out of the dryer and smelled fine - then he wore them again and back to stinking.

  • It can't hurt to try it!  Although I always feel weird when I buy it because I think that the cashier is going to think I have smelly lady bits!   So I usually tell them "oh, this is the BEST for smelly shoes!"  HA!  (Or I go to self check out)
  • Ha!

  • the difference may be in the material the shoes are made of.  The pedipeds are leather aren't they?  I think shoes with man-made materials have a tendency to get stinkier without the use of socks to absorb the sweat.
  • Ugh, maybe I'll try pedipeds, then. I've spent so much money on shoes for G. His right foot turns in so I've been trying to spend a little more on shoes that give him appropriate support. Off to Amazon.

I actually don't think their adventure line shoes are leather.
I always thought pedipeds were way too expensive (still do) but dd is really pigeon toed and falls a lot and then falls lead to more vitiligo spots.   So, I try to keep her in the best shoes possible to keep her from falling.  I've been really happy with them so far.

  • G is pigeon toed too and VERY clumsy. I hear ya. I'm happy to spend the money on decent shoes that will help him, I just wish I hadn't just spent $60 on two OTHER "good" pairs of shoes, lol.
