TFiOS Movie SP Edition

As I said in my other post, I thought it was beautiful. I was concerned about the choices of actors, but they were perfect.

The eulogies. Oh God, the eulogies.

The thing I missed most was when they leave for Amsterdam, you don't see Gus fighting with his family -- you don't seem him with his family at all in that scene. In the book, that struggle makes it very clear he's choosing Hazel over himself and I did miss it in the movie but I still loved it overall.

Also, Peter Van Houten was awesome in that assholeish way he is.

  • I liked it as well. It felt a little rushed at parts and little dragged out at other moments, but that's just me being uber critical. Overall, it was good, and neither actor annoyed me like I feared they might.

  • The only thing I  missed was (and I am paraphrasing as I don't remember the exact line) but when Hazel is at Gus's house and he says something like "Hazel likes me so much, I take her breathe away"
I LOL'd when reading the book. I wanted that line in the movie. Somewhere.

  • I don't know how you girls (and millions of other people) could see this in the theater. My mom asked me to go with her but I refused. I'm going to have to watch it at home and take occasional breaks.
  • The character who plays Gus looks basically identical to my sister's ex-boyfriend, pretty much down to ever expression.  I was so distracted by it.  I even went to his facebook and stole this picture to show you guys because it was so creepy.  Grant's on the right.

Other than that, I loved it, although I have to confess that I didn't shed a single tear.

  • Gosh. I wish I could say I didn't shed a single tear.  I started crying when Hazel got sick the first time before the Amsterdam trip and cried off and on through the end.

I thought it was really well done. They didn't hit every point from the book, but they never will.  I thought the acting was fantastic.

Agreed! I know they had to cut a lot from the book, but this would have only taken 10 seconds to show, and by removing it, Gus's admission to Hazel that his cancer is back feels too abrupt. I needed that setup.

Aside from that, I feel like they did a great job.

    I wrote this!
  • I'm late to the game but I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and was ugly crying during some of it and DH had to pinch me.  I thought that Gus was a smidgen annoying but even that didn't deter me from enjoying the film.  I was surprised, they really didn't show anything with Gus's family. The set up before the trip would have been nice though.

I will be owning the DVD.  Clint even said he loved the movie (and kind of teared up a couple of times).

Julie-you have no heart. :)  hahaha.

I just saw it today and I agree with this 100%. Also, Shailene annoyed me a little too in this movie. I think maybe she is just everywhere and I'm sick of her.
