F/U f/u titty tuesday! New way to measure bra size!

Since we're talking boobies and bras, I've got a story to share! My friend went to Lane Bryant last night and got fitted before she bought bras on the buy 2 get 2 free sale they've got going on. The lady doing her measurement had just been taught a new way to measure. You measure the band size as you always would, but instead of standing upright to measure the fullest part of your chest you bed over so your chest is parallel to the floor and let your titties dangle. then measure. This ensures that all of the tissue that would be encased in the cups is taken into account in the measurement. This caused my friend's measurement to go from a 44 H to a 44 M! I tried it and instead of being a 42 DDD I would now be a 42 I! To me that is insane, but the center part of the bra is supposed to lie flat to your chest which it never ever does on me. I plan to go to LB tomorrow after work and try on one of their bras in that size. My friend has to order hers online tho since they only go up to an I cup in the stores.
Have you guys heard of this way of measuring before? what do you think?

  • I've heard of it as one measurement among many, here. I haven't actually used this calculator, though, so I don't know how much it would have me change my size.

  • It makes sense. I've never understood how they can get an accurate measurement, when you are wearing a bra that potentially is ill-fitting, how they can say, oh yes. You have a 7 inch difference.  But what if the middle part doesn't touch and you've got fourth boobs hanging out the sides?

  • That is an interesting way to measure. I'm curious what my size would be according to that.

  • The only way I see this working is if you're braless. Otherwise, there won't be a difference between standing and bending over, since the bra isn't going to let things dangle.

I'd rather not be braless with a stranger's hands all up in my goods. But then, I have small boobs, and even when I just went up 2 cups and was still wearing my previous/normal size, I got a good measurement.

The measurement is just the starting point, though. Most people take it for gospel that's what they should be and don't bother trying another size if their fit isn't perfect in the size they were told.

My local boutique gets very up close and personal, but I always leave with a great fitting bra.  They measure around the band, but then stand behind you, have you bend over and basically wiggle you into the bra.

  • Yeah I just went to LB tonight to get new bras, and I told the sales lady there, she said she hadn't heard of the other method of fitting, but she measured me and told me I was 42 F. (I always thought DD=E DDD=F, guess I was wrong, F is a size up from DDD) (at least at Lane Bryant). I tried on the F, and I even tried on a G. The G was HUGE on me! The F fits so much better than the DDDs I'd been squeezing into!
