Vacation recommendation

Does any one have a rec for a vacation spot? Looking for somewhere in New Jersey or that area. Any hotel recommendations? I have a 1.5 year old, and it would just be my husband, son and I.

Re: Vacation recommendation

  • I loved Ocean City, NJ, but it was longer ago than I care to admit.  (Like college long ago!)  It was clean and family friendly.  Not too much vulgar (like T-shirts, and stuff.)  It is a dry town, so that I'm sure, influences the atmosphere.

I have no hotel recommendations, though!

I asked this question on this board and thanks to the awesome ladies on here along with recs from friends, we went to Rehoboth Beach with our two littles.

It was clean, adorable, and super family friendly. (I mean, we actually saw a teen walking the boardwalk with a cardboard sign that read, "free hugs" and passing out hugs to strangers.) I especially loved that you could lay on the beach and not be hassled by people trying to sell you stuff. I recommend this place highly! Not overly expensive, fun old school feel. Only downside is there are a lot of rocks in the water.

We stayed in a condo - which I would not recommend - so sorry I have no lodging recs.
  • I adore Cape May. It's darling and very family friendly.

  • We are also Rehoboth fans!  I've been going there since I was a kid, and it's very hard for me to go to other beaches! I usually describe it as Shadyside with a beach.  We've rented a house before and a condo, both were nice.

Avalon NJ is a nice town. My friend's family owns a vacation house there, and I really liked it.

  • Another vote for Rehoboth!

  • Another vote for Avalon.  We are changing it up this year and trying the outer banks, but if you're looking for Jersey, we loved that area.  very quiet, quaint, but still has stuff to do for the kids (mini golf, arcade, ice cream shops, etc)  let me know if you have any questions!  we liked the house we stayed in the last time, I would recommend it.

  • Another vote for Rehoboth Beach, DE.  We have been going since I was a kid and it has only gotten better and better.  We always stay at Avenue Inn and Spa which is a block from the beach but offers a shuttle right down to the boardwalk so you don't have to haul all your crap.  They just renovated the hotel last year and it is even better!  We usually take the ferry over to Cape May for the last day or two of our trip.   We love the Baltimore area so we usually stop on the way down and/or way back and fit in the national aquarium or children's museum too.
