Another book related news tidbit

Barnes & Noble is spinning off the Nook business.  It's going to be its own separate company.

Chapters (in Canada) did this with Kobo a few years ago. I don't think it helped sales at all.
  • Hmm...
So does this mean that I'll be able to buy Kindle books on my Nook? If it becomes it's own company, will it still be restricted to Barnes & Noble for book downloads?

Also, what will this mean for my library cloud, which I now access through B&N website? And what happens to my cloud if Nook Corporation fails and isn't bought out?

So many questions... (and I realize none of us probably know the answers)

@InLovewSB with Kobo it still restricted you to kobo books. They remained affliated with the Chapters website but had their own company. I don't know if that is what Nook will do.
  • Hmm, does not seem like it bodes well. NYTimes story: Barnes & Noble to spin off Nook unit as sales continue to fall.

  • @InLovewSB‌ pretty confident it will stay a B&N format only. They are basically selling off that section in hopes someone else will make it viable since it isn't going well for them, but it will maintain the B&N exclusive.

They are still hoping to gain from this sale in the form of ebook sales.
