Question for Teachers Out There! **NGPR at all!**

I am trying to prep myself for this interview on Monday by making a list of possible questions I might be asked. The stage 1 interview is usually about 15 minutes so I will probably get asked about 8 questions (from what my MIL has told me)
Any tips or ideas on what questions I should prepare for? What questions were you asked or what questions would you ask if you were holding the interview?

Keep in mind this is a K-5 level.

TIA!!!!!

Re: Question for Teachers Out There! **NGPR at all!**

  • I am in a 6-8 school, and I was asked about classroom management, discipline, grading practices, strengths, weaknesses, and some GTKY kind of stuff. One of the guys on my hiring committee was so happy my response to "What do you do for fun?" wasn't related to the job at all. He said it made me a real person when I told them that I watch the Patriots, hang out with my dog, and let DH try to teach me to play golf.

    Questions I asked:
Best part about working at the school?
What opportunities are there to get involved in the school community outside being a classroom teacher?

I am so hopeful for you!

  • Also...

Lots of districts are using data like you wouldn't believe. Be prepared for questions like "How do you incorporate data into your daily lessons?"

And parent communication questions (how do you do it? How often? Etc)

Second what @poppies717 said--and good questions to ask them!  The data bit is SO important right now!

If you can, look up what types of programs they use in their school (school-wide discipline programs, reading programs, daily five, etc).  Check out the district website--have they been recognized on anything or look at their mission statement?  I was asked why I applied at the district I am in, and I was able to congratulate them on recent awards and explain that I wanted to be in a district that was taking education to the next level.  Familiarize yourself with information on their website.

If you are asked about something you have no idea about, don't BS them.  I have sat in on interviews and people see right through that.  Say something like, "I am currently unaware of that program, but I will look into that/ I am excited to learn more about that".  Be confident--sell yourself!

    GOOD LUCK!

  • Can you guys clarify what you mean by "data questions?"

Education right now is driven by data--how are the students improving, how can you prove it--data.  I found this article on data in the classroom--check it out :)

  • A question that you could ask is "What do you love most about this school?"

Questions that get asked at our district are about classroom management, data, what strengths can you bring to the team, discipline, and parent communication.

When we interviewed last year, we leaned away from the people that gave "canned" answers.  Anyone can research the latest buzzwords, but we were looking for real life examples of how you've it with children or other people.
