Anyone use Pittsburgh OB/GYN Associates?

Hi ladies! Did any of you use them? My SIL did and as of right now I don't know anyone else that did. I trust her completely but wanted another yes we did too...haha. Just had my 1st u/s today measuring 5 wks and then another next week then I'm released from my clinic. I'm like..whoa..can't I stay longer! So now I guess I need to find a practice. I'm ok with delivering at Magee and that's where they deliver. Any input would be great. Thanks!!

I figured this board was more active then the other one :)

Re: Anyone use Pittsburgh OB/GYN Associates?

  • I assume you mean OB/GYN Associates of Pittsburgh? The one with offices in Oakland, Monroeville and Fox Chapel?

I've been going there for almost (gulp) 20 years. I saw Dr. Hazel for years for gyn, saw most of the current doctors through two pregnancies and now see Dr. Hugo for gyn.

My first pregnancy was an emergency c-section due to placental abruption. They were supportive of VBAC for #2.

I felt I was well taken care of and I had good experiences at Magee.

  • That's who I see now.   I switched right before I got pregnant with my 2nd son, so 5-6 years now!  I am not as attached to the doctors as I was at the other practice I used, but they are all very nice and they delivered my 2nd DS and it was a good experience.  Congrats and good luck!
  • Yep!  I went to that practice for both of my sons, and had good experiences both times.  I had complications with my first (pre-e) and was considered high-risk with my 2nd (high blood pressure) and I really felt like they took great care of me, never made me feel silly when I had to call in for my issues, etc.  They were really adamant the 2nd time about trying to get me as far along as possible before having to induce (I made it to almost 37 weeks) and I felt confident with the decisions they made along the way.

My favorites there are Dr. Shaheen and Dr. Kremser (some people seem to not like him, but he delivered Liam and I had a great experience)

    good luck!

  • Thank you!! @egpitt22‌ my SIL loved Shaheen. Guess I will be in good hands. I'm sure everyone will have their own opinion :)

  • I really like Dr Shaheen, too.   I wish my son would have waited one more day to be born, so she could have delivered him!  Darn babies, always doing things on their schedules!  ;)
  • I loved Shaheen and Kremser as well. Dr. K was the doctor for my VBAC, and we had a great experience with him.

Really, my only issue in either pregnancy was Dr. Thomas commenting on my (reasonable) weight gain when I was 7 or 8 months along. The problem was that he did it in front of my husband...

I don't think Dr. Thomas delivers anymore.  He commented on my weight gain and told me my baby was going to be huge and even walked out of an appointment because I declined to get a flu shot.  I complained and at that time they told he was going to stop delivering about a month before DD was born.

He was the only one I didn't like.  Dr. Goetz delivered DD and Dr. Shaheen delivered DS and they were both great.  Dr. Goetz tried to push pitocin on me in the beginning, but once I refused, she respected that.

I would have been happy to deliver with any of the other doctors as well, especially Dr. Hazel or Dr. Hoca.

  • Wow on Dr Thomas!! Not sure if he would recognize me ( hope not!! ) but I know his wife and younger daughter. Haven't seen them in awhile but that just disappoints me on his behavior :(

  • BECKY!!! CONGRATS!!!! i'm so pumped for you!!! i don't have any advice-i'm with western pa ob/gyn and plan to deliver at west penn instead of magee (partially bc i wanted to be with an office that has their own u/s equipment and none with magee do that i could find). with DS i was released from my RE after my 8w u/s. this time i could have been released at the 6w u/s, but they also said that i could come back for another scan at 8w so i opted for that before being released. it's nerve wrecking to be released from the RE, but it's a good thing also! both times the OB i was moving on to wanted to see me two weeks later/at 10w anyways, so i still didn't have to wait terribly long for another dr appt (though i only had an u/s at 10w with DS-mostly because i was a paranoid mess and the dr was afraid to attempt the doppler, not hear anything, which is totally common, and make me even worse. he felt peace of mind was better for me). this time around the dr did try the doppler and we got a HB for a few seconds, but that was it.

    anyways-i'm thrilled for you and your H! here's to a H&H9!!

You might be thinking of Carson. I don't remember hearing anything about Kremser.

I used this practice during my pregnancies. I adore Dr. Shaheen and Dr. Thomas, and I really like Dr. Kremser and Dr. Hazel.

    Good luck!

Are you ladies sure it was Thomas and not Carson? I think you have them confused. Dr Thomas was with me through my first miscarriage, and he was absolutely wonderful. I'd hate to see the "wrong" experiences attributed to him. He is definitely still seeing patients and delivering.

Oh my--you're right, my mistake--Carson was the sour one.  I don't remember Dr. Thomas.

Truthfully, it was 7 1/2 years ago, so I'm not sure. And the one comment about my weight would not have been so bad if my husband hadn't taken that as license to try to monitor my food intake.

But I set him straight, so no harm done. :-D

My experiences were fantastic overall, which is why such a minor "issue" is still memorable!
