GR librarian question

The number of ALIENATED editions is getting out of control--there are 4 separate audio editions and one rogue edition that simply reads "250 pages." No clue what that's supposed to be, since the hardcover and paperback are 344 and 320 pages and the ebook is around 350. Can anyone help combine some of these? I'd love you forever!

It looks like all of them have different ISBNs or ASINs except the rogue 250-page edition. Different ISBNs count as different editions.

ETA: I removed the 250-page rogue.

Thanks for the explanation. So the only one we can combine is the rogue one?

ETA: Thanks for removing that one, BTW!

You can't combine editions. Only books. The reviews of the editions of a single book appear together on the book page, regardless of which edition you're viewing.

You can delete editions, but only if there are fewer than 5 reviews. This is usually only done if it's exactly the same edition.

In some cases, once a book has been out for a while, you end up with multiple entries for the same ISBN, because they changed the cover art. Some people (myself included - I hate movie tie-in covers) are anal and like to have the exact edition and cover art of their copy recorded. In those cases you can end up with a book that doesn't have an ISBN because it's an alternate cover.

  • That sucks. So people can just add random non-existent editions? It makes me nuts that there are already so many.

I looked up the ISBNs, and the others all seem to be legitimate:
    1 Hardcover
    1 Paperback
    1 Kindle
1 ebook (matches the ISBN for NOOK)
    1 Audible audiobook
    3 Audio CDs:
     - a standard CD (list price $39.99)
     - an MP3 CD (list price $29.99)
     - a Library Edition (list price $83.99)

Out of curiosity, why does it bother you to have a lot of editions?

  • Probably because I like things to be tidy and concise.

  • That would bother me too @taylormillgirl
    I'm a minimalist.
I write sexy books. I read all the books. I love dresses & macarons.

Isn't it a good thing that there's a market for your book to be published in so many formats? :) And that enough people are reading them all that they've taken the time to add them to Goodreads?

  • Of course...in theory. But GR is full of bugs, and whichever addition came last messed up the data I see in my author portal. Now instead of seeing my cumulative to-read adds, etc., I'm only seeing the data for one edition. (That's what prompted me to check the number of editions to begin with.) The same thing happened with one of my Sultry books. Six months later, I still can't view the cumulative data for that title.

Perhaps GR will fix the issue...someday. Thanks for combining that rogue listing. Maybe that was the problem, and it's just going to take a few days for the dust to settle.
