Post-wedding b****

We went to DH's cousin's wedding this past weekend. It was an outdoor ceremony, but it POURED the entire weekend. (When I say pouring, I mean pouring - there were flooded roads, many towns/cities in the area declared states of emergency because of all the water.). Well, the bride still insisted on having the ceremony outdoors because "it's such a beautiful location". Are you freakin' kidding me? All you could focus on was trying to stay dry. I refused to sit down on the wet chairs because I didn't want to ruin my dress, so we stood in the back as did many other guests, so half the people were sitting and half standing. Umbrellas everywhere. You didn't say any part of the "beautiful location." The BMs had umbrellas, but only one or two GM did, so they got soaking wet and then had to go and take photos. No umbrellas offered for guests to use.

And they didn't even complete the entire ceremony - they did quick vows, the kiss and that was it. People were high-tailing it back to their cars before the B&G had walked back up the aisle. They finished the rest at the ceremony at the reception (where, BTW, they had nine speeches).

The groom's mom (DH's aunt) confirmed the day before that they had a back-up plan, but I guess they refused to use it. WTF?! It's pouring rain and you'd rather everyone get wet and miserable then use your other indoor location?

Re: Post-wedding b****

  • Oh, and also, my crazy-a** MIL showed up in a full on off-white pant suit. DH had told her not to wear this other white pant suit that she had, so she opted for that - off-white... gah! She's so dense sometimes.
  • Yuck!  I honestly, probably wouldn't have gone to the wedding, if it was raining and I knew it was going to be outside.  Family or not!

  • Outdoor weddings can just be the worst. I am extremely grumpy in hot conditions, and I went to a wedding once that was outdoors and the heat index was 120. I do not understand how this is comfortable for anyone, including the bride in a possibly heavy dress. (To top it off the only food at the reception was ham steaks and mashed potatoes -- wtf.).

So rain, and her refusal to do it elsewhere for everyone's comfort? Horrible.

For DH's sake I got out of the car, but believe me, I was tempted to just skip it!
  • That is awful that they did the ceremony in the rain.
  • Geez - I think it's so selfish when people don't consider the comfort of their guests. We definitely had back up plans for the ceremony since that portion was outdoors and where we live it could have gone either way - sun or rain! Luckily it was sunny :)

The crazy part is they had a back-up plan and chose not to use it!

That is crazy! How can anyone appreciate the beautiful venue when it's pouring rain? No one can.

Our venue had a wonderful back up plan. And they have heat lamps for when it's cold.
