House Repairs/updates

What are you working on right now?

We signed up yesterday to get our basement waterproof.  Its a big chuck of money that we want to try to pay in the 6 months interest free time peroide. So things will be a little tight for while.

Our A/C broke yesterday.  The guy came last June and fixed the leak and refilled with Freon.  Well we went to use it yesterday and there is no Freon. Should we call the same guy and complain?  He charged us an arm and a leg, so I am not real thrilled to call, but Freon should last longer then a year.

Tell us about your houses!

Re: House Repairs/updates

  • D says 5 years at least.

We want to build patio cover or buy a gazebo. Can't decide which to do. Gazebo is temporary fix that could cost about $1500 and add no value to the home. Where a permanent cover could be about $3000.
  • Sounds like maybe there is either another leak or the same leak.  A/C work sadly isn't cheap no matter who you go with, but sounds like maybe just for your sanity you should find someone else.

    So far here's our status:

Upstairs A/C - The home warranty people took all week to decide that they could get a compressor and to make sure I was willing to pay the "extra charges".  I was none too happy that it took them a week to figure this out while half my house is in the 90s-100s.

Garage door - The new garage door is finally in and working.  Need to go up Monday and pay for the door.

Truck - Finally got the broken starter bolt out of the engine the starter back in the truck.  Sadly, the inspection is expired now, so other than the trip I made to the gas station to put gas in it, I can't drive it until it's inspected.

Furniture - The rest of it is supposed to be here on the 18th.  We'll see how that happens.  Don't have my hopes up after the last time.

  • I really hope your furniture arrives on time and that you get your A/C working upstairs.

  • We don't have any repairs since we are renting. At least none for us to do. Our landlord has still not replaced our screen door. With the high temps it's not a necessity right now. But I would appreciate the replacement before it cools off. It's hard to get a draft through the apartment without the sliding doors being open. Without a screen door we end up with bugs inside. And a cat trying to sneak out.

  • Spent the weekend furniture shopping. Bought a couch, love seat, ottoman, chaise lounge, end tables, Hutch, and barstools. Let's just say I'll take Aleigha's roof cost right now...

But the hardwood floor is in, and the tile is going in this week. Plus, the kitchen should be in soon.
