Well...she's here....although a bit early...

Hi ladies,

I realize I've been MIA for a while but just wanted to check in and let you know that my daughter has arrived....a bit unexpected as my due date wasn't until September 7th, but I guess my little one had other plans....

Violet Hermione was born on June 22nd at 2 pounds 15 ounces 16 inches. Although she will be in the NICU for a while, overall she is doing well and all tests that have been done so far to check her overall health have come back just fine. It's going to be a long summer waiting for her to be big and strong enough to come home.

I don't even know how it all happened - this whole pregnancy had been pretty uneventful up until the 24 week mark when I started bleeding. Went to the hospital then, they discovered I had placenta previa and kept me for observation. 4 days later, I was discharged and told to take it easy. At the 28 week mark, I had a sonogram to check if the placenta moved, which it did and I was told that if I were to deliver, it would not require a c section. Literally 4 days later, I was at home folding some shirts to put away when I felt something trickling down my leg and I look and see blood. Ran to the bathroom and a huge clot of blood came out so H and I rushed to the hospital where they discovered that not only did the placenta abrupt, but my water broke and I was in labor. They gave me meds to try to stop the labor and honestly, I had no idea I was in labor - I felt no contractions. I was then told I would be kept there for the remainder of the pregnancy, but that they could deliver the baby any day depending on how the baby was tolerating being in me as well as whether or not the bleeding would stop or get worse. Next day, the bleeding got worse and they had to do an emergency c section. It happened so quick, I didn't have time to process what was happening. Scary doesn't even begin to describe how I felt, but I'm relieved that I'm okay, and more importantly, my child is okay.

Btw, we were team green - we had no idea what we were having until she was born....most people thought we were having a boy but surprise!

Re: Well...she's here....although a bit early...

  • First off, congratulations mom and dad, and welcome to the world Violet!

Second, so many prayers for all of you.  I can't even imagine what you went through and know that we are all here for you.  So many prayers that little miss Violet grows beautifully and can go home sooner than expected.

Congrats! And look at all that hair on Miss Violet! Having a LO in the NICU is hard--my twins were born a little later than your DD (at 30w4d) and were there for a while after a "surprise! You've been in labor" kind of story too. Visit the preemies board on the bump if you need to connect with other moms that understand what you're going through. I'm glad she is doing well considering her early arrival.

  • Wow, what a scary turn of events and delivery.  I'm glad they were able to get the two steroid doses into you and it made a big difference in her lung development.  I had them when I went into preterm labour but fortunetly did not have to experience half of what you did.

Beautiful baby and beautiful name.  Here is hoping she grows and thrives and you can bring her home sooner rather than later.

  • Oh my goodness!! Congratulations, mom and dad, and welcome to the world, little Violet! What a beautiful name for a beautifully tiny girl.

I'm so sorry for what you guys are going through, though! I can't imagine how scary it must have been and still is with her staying in the NICU. So glad she's got a great hospital staff caring for her, though. Everyone is doing everything they can to help her grow strong, and that includes you holding her and pumping whatever you're able to.

Many T&Ps to your new little family that Violet continues to do well and grow so she can go home to you as soon as possible.
