I love the 4th of July, BUT....
....I feel like it's always the beginning of a downward spiral to the end of summer!!

Anyone else have similar feelings?
We committed this year to not OVER-committing to doing things over the summer. We wanted to make sure the kids had time to just run around in the yard, play with the neighbor kids, and just enjoy summer....not be driving from one place to another all season. we've definitely had obligations along the way, but I feel like we've had more downtime than in years past, so I'm happy about that!
Re: I love the 4th of July, BUT....
Our July is pretty packed, so I'm trying to keep August weekends open for both some down time and the things we don't want to miss doing before summer's over (Idlewild, Kennywood, hiking).
Heather has 11 weeks of summer off of school. This is the beginning of week 5. So from that POV, we are not even to the halfway point of summer yet. :-)
I've attempted to schedule absolutely no commitments on the weekends this summer so far, and it's been glorious! We've had such a great time relaxing with my family and just hanging out.
This summer is going fast, but I think it's because we bought a house on May 30, school ended June 4, spent the first two weekends in June moving in and living int he rental, then we went away to New York for a long weekend on June 20, and then DH had to fly home on the 25th... this past weekend signaled our first real weekend in the house all together and it was nice!
The rest of our summer is unplanned, thankfully, outside of a couple of friend bday parties for Gavin. I know we're talking about having a house warming party over Labor Day weekend, so we've got that to plan for as well. We just really need to focus on getting unpacked and the boys settled into their rooms in the meantime.
And school will be here before we know it. Gavin has had the last 4-5 weeks off from doing anything, so we decided on a new schedule statring this week. He's working on his writing this morning and then he and Conall are going to do one project a week for the rest of the summer - they'll pick a subject (this week is the Eagle) and look through the computer, pick out some pictures to print and cut out, and then read up about the Eagle. Gavin will write a couple of sentences about the topic and then they can both tell us about it.
I may be overly ambitious here, but they need something to do in the mornings, at least 2-3x a week, and I want Gavin to stay on top of his writing and hope that Conall will learn some things too, as he starts a full day preK-4 program at Gavin's school this year! We'll see how it goes!
My three sons!
When I get back from the conference we are going on vacation (YAY!), but then we have NOTHING planned for August. And I am so glad. Hoping to fit in some local summer stuff and some relaxing then....and I should probably weed my flower beds, too!
