Tuesday

Talked to the A/C people this morning. The compressor should be in tomorrow. So they're hoping to be able to install no later than Thursday. Not ashamed to say I've pulled the "pregnant wife" card with both the warranty company and the HVAC people. :)

  • That card is a good one to use for sure :)

We are hanging around the house most of today. I spent about two hours this morning organizing Abby's clothes. If the weather isn't bad when Abby gets up from her nap we are going to break out the water table we got her for her birthday. We might also take her to the park.

  • Mark-LOVE IT!

I am around today. I just got back from the dentist.  I may have fibbed a bit and said maybe I was PG to avoid x-rays.  They have told style machine that you have to put these things in your teeth before the picture. They hurt so bad, so I wanted to avoid. it. sorrynotsorry.

I haven't heard from our AC guy, but it is cooler today, so I can manage.
  • Jen,

See if you can find a dentist with the computerized x-rays.  I hate having my teeth x-rayed for that reason and the x-ray "film" that connects right to the computer seems to be smaller.

But I love my dentist.  so IDK.  If we move out of this one horse town, it shouldn't be an issue.

I don't feel bad one bit.  I will when he comes to open house night (I am his son's school counselor) and I don't look PG.  I would hope he doesn't ask.

The AC guy came.  Sigh...no AC tonight for sure. He said he wants to try to find the leak but its too late into the day.

Yeah, no AC for us either until Thur/Fri. :(  I'm over it.

  • I am so annoyed.  There is a warranty that is 10 years if they registered within 60 days of installation.  When did the people register it? 70 days!  I think its still covered because without the registration it drops down to 5 year warranty and we are still in the 5 yr period. I am so annoyed with everything.  We still have to pay him to find the leak ($150) and then put it in.
  • Well, for the second time in my life, I find myself having to use a home warranty and wishing I didn't.  This could have been fixed last week, but the warranty people waited until late Thursday to approve it.  So nothing got ordered until Monday. :(

Also annoyed that I have to pay the $50 deductible plus another $200-300 in charges that in my opinion should be part of the repair.  They're paying for the part and its replacement.  I have to pay another $200-300 for them to put the refrigerant back in.  As far as I'm concerned if it won't work without it, then you need to cover it.

  • These are reasons I like renting. It's my landlords problem to fix a broken A/C. But I hope you both get your A/C fixed before the end of the week.

Yeah, but you'd still be living there while it got fixed. :P

  • We are thinking about going back to renting when we move. We can be a little bit more picky because we are ok renting.  While I love my house, I do feel like we settled.  Rent is hard to find around here, so renting for another year was challenging.  But if we move back to a city, we might be ok.  I don't think owning a home is a great as it used to once be.

All depends on what you want to get out of it. I think a lot of people go into it without really understanding what they're doing.

  • I think that it all depends. We would rather own, because we feel that even though we have these things to repair, we are putting our own money back into it and keeping it.

  • I think they both have their pros and cons certainly. I think what I meant is that owning a house kinda used to be the gold standard of living the "American dream." I don't feel like that is the case anymore.

I don't own due to some sense of living the "American dream", I do it because to me long term it makes more sense.

  • I agree with you, Jen. Owning isn't what it was back in the day. But we want to own for the same reasons as stated. It makes more sense long term for us. But renting is a great option for a lot of people. I like owning over renting because I like to personalize where I live with landscaping and painting. :)

  • We would love to own. I don't think it will be possible for at least 5 years or more for us though. I think we will have to wait until I go back to work to buy. I am so worried we will not get approved for a home loan.

  • I was worried we wouldn't get approved for as much as we needed. Mainly due to me not working and all my student loans. They approved for a lot more than we could even comfortably afford. I swear they don't consider food or bills when they approve.

  • I guess I am even more worried because we can't get approved for a credit card. We don't have any money for a down payment either :(

  • Really, mortgages get approved a whole lot quicker than credit cards. And the reason is that credit cards can be for anything. They know that you need somewhere to live. It's a good credit, where credit cards are considered a bad credit. As long as you get your credit card debt down, and are left with student loans and car loans, and are able to afford a small down payment, you will get approved for something. It may not be what you want, but they will approve you, and like Michelle said, probably much more than you can afford.
