Scooting over this way! PR

Hi All!!!

I shared my news on GP earlier this week but now I figured I would officially introduce myself on the GP Mom board!
DH and I found out we were pregnant on Sunday while we were away on vacation. To say I was surprised is quite an understatement! We had been trying for 19 months and after 2 months of acupuncture I finally stopped spotting and had normal cycles.

My 1st appointment is July 24 but not with my doctor it is with someone to draw blood and discuss the details of pregnancy. I've never heard of this but that's the way my OBGYN office works. My next appointment is 8/4 for my 8 week appointment with the doctor.

One question, last night we went out for dinner and after dinner my stomach was really upset all night. I ended up waking up in the middle of the night to vomit. Could this just be because I ate something heavy and reacted to it? Or is this what I should expect with being pregnant now?

  • Unfortunately, welcome to pregnancy.  There will be times you love and can't get enough of food, and other times where you eat it and your stomach rebels.

  • I'm only a few days behind you on first appointment. If I hadn't had a loss, I would have a 'discussion' appointment at 8-12 weeks. Literally come in and talk about family history and pregnancy, no exam, blood work, or testing. I guess every doctor is different.
  • Congrats again! :) so very happy for you! I don't have any advice, but wanted to say hi!

  • Yay!!! So happy you're over here! The talk appointment is normal with a lot of OB's. Mine doesn't do it, but I've heard it is pretty common.

As far as waking up to vomit, I've lucked out and not actually vomited yet. I find that if I really feel I need to vomit, if I eat something like crackers or pretzels it will settle my stomach before I throw up. Though, it is getting worse, so I don't know how long it will work for.  I doubt you ate anything that caused you to vomit, more like baby hormones just throwing everything out of wack.

As far as pregnancy symptoms, they can definitely start right away, unfortunately. Hopefully it was just a fluke though and you can avoid the ms!

Pregnancy is definitely a roller coaster. My first appt was at 8 weeks for blood draw and talk. My first u/s or heartbeat check was 13w1d. It was really hard to wait. Congrats!

    Congrats and welcome!

And to echo everyone else, each dr will have slightly their own way of doing things. My first appts. were to fill out medical history, talk about some basic stuff, go to the lab for bloodwork, and first u/s to date the pregnancy, but all of this was done at 8 weeks.

  • Welcome! So happy for you!

My OB had the same procedure where we met with a nurse educator for blood draws and to go over all my medical history and talk about important pregnancy details. I thought it was helpful because she told me what meds I could take and what to do if i had any problems.

As others have said, my first pregnancy was like that - medical history and blood draw first. This time, I just started with u/s and appointments at 6ish weeks. Hopefully you feel better soon and that it was a fluke!
