mana

H and I are installing the car seat base this weekend in both cars and I was reading the manuals for info.  I know you have a Jeep, so I wanted to share how stupid my manual is.  They only gave me a hard copy "Getting Started" guide.  The detailed info is on a CD, that I needed to update my Adobe to use.  The info I needed wasn't even in the guide!

I went to Google and got my info.  In a Grand Cherokee, you can use the two closest LATCH points for a center car seat install.  I don't remember what model you have, but I don't think you'll find that info in your owner's manual.

I guess it's the heat and the pregnancy, but I am so annoyed with Jeep.  I wish we had money for a new car.

Re: mana

  • Omg this reminds me we have to get the base in the car asap!!
  • I have the compass... I heard jeeps and car seats are a pain. H is picking up the seat tomorrow (we had to order it from another store) , I'll make sure he installs it ASAP to figure it out.

Did you guys figure it out?

@DanaOcNy‌ - get on it girl!

  • We have a 2011 Subaru outback and we had to do the same thing, they make the latches for the drivers and passenger sides only in most vehicles, don't stress it! Before you know it you'll be moving them bc they are too heavy to lift out of the middle :( any questions feel free to ask! I know I only have one but I've been there done that and I know sometimes the bmb boards can be snarky!

  • @DanaOCNY get on that!  Baby will be here so soon!!!

@mana8503, from what I've found, in a Grand Cherokee and in H's car, the LATCH points can be used in the middle too, you just can't attach 2 car seats to them.  Installing car seats is this weekend's project, I'll update you after it's done.

@mpjf1001 thanks for the advice! I'll be sure to ask if I think of any questions.  The BMBs are so snarky.  I really only lurk over there for fear of Internet stepping on someone's toes.
  • Wait a second. I don't understand this whole car seat thing yet. But, can I put two car seats in my compass? Cause I'm going to need two!

I Googled 2 infant car seats jeep compass. There's different articles from kicking tires for each year.

Looks like you can use the LATCH system or seat belts so it's doable. Idk what the difference is, what's better, etc. They only tested 2 seats for the boosters, not infant carriers. I know I went to buy buy baby and they had a bunch of bases and car seats to play with and I'm sure they would let you test them in your car with their supervision.

  • Has anyone thought about heading down to their local fire department. Around here they will put the seats in the car seats in for you.

@DanaOcNy‌ - you should head over today and have them do it. I am sure since we are in the same area your FD will have similar policies to mine.

  • @minionlover‌ I asked our local fire chief (we are friends with his gf) and no one in our local house is certified. We live in a very small town, thinking when we go into Middletown this weekend we will call ahead to some of the depts there and see if they do it.
  • @DanaOcNy‌ - you should come over to Poughkeepsie and visit me then. I think every fire person is certified in my department. :)

  • @islandmonkey8, latch system is more secure, thats just my opinion, you can def do two car seats as in previous posts most cars come with the latch system on both sides and not in the middle so cars are made for twins=)  For example when my sister had her son, she put her Graco car seat base on one side and her then 3 year old who was still in a convertible car seat behind the driver's seat using the latch system. She has a jeep cherokee, i think its a 2004, but im guessing on the year. Either way if she didnt, she would just have secured them in with the seatbelt, right now her almost 1 year old is in the convertible on one side and her 4 year old is in the booster on the other side, he just uses the seat belt for that though.
    Sorry for the ramblings...
@DanaOcNy, see if the trooper barracks on crystal run road will check it for you, not sure if the fire dept in middletown will, we never had ours checked we just used a latch from each side to secure the base in the middle until she was ready to be moved!

  • @minionlover‌ if PK wasn't over an hour from us I'd go (would love some Melting Pot)! Us hudson valley nesties should plan a lunch this summer!

@mpjf1001‌ thanks for the suggestion of the barracks, completely forgot we could go there too. We are going to attempt tonight in getting it in and hoping we have no problems.
  • @DanaOCNY here is a link that will give you a location near you for a certified car seat tech:

@islandmonkey8 Call it pregnancy brain but at first I was like, "Isn't this her first pregnancy?  Why does she need 2 seats?"  Totally brain farted that you are having twins :)  You can install more than one seat in your car, each LATCH point can only support 1 seat.  So if you put 1 baby in the middle and one on the side, only the side baby can use LATCH.  The middle baby would need to use the seat belt.

And to all the Hudson Valley ladies, I would love to meet up!  It would have to be sooner rather than later since I have an expiration date.
