NMMR: Weekend Plans and a Facebook Face-Palm

Good morning ladies and gents!  Just saw something on FB that needs sharing, and since I'm not active on TK anymore I'm sharing it here.

We're going to a wedding tonight for H's little cousin who is 18 and just graduated HS.  She's a sweet girl and we wish them all the best, but I am in a part of the country where getting married so young is very unusual so it has caused a bit of a stir among friends and family.  This morning she posted a message to the effect of "Hi everyone!  As you know, today is our wedding day.  You have all been so supportive that we would like to invite all of you to attend the ceremony at TIME at CHURCH.  Everyone is welcome at the ceremony."

Big face-palm.  I know she means well and reallllyyyyy hope this doesn't backfire on her.  I know she has a pretty big HS friend group and am not surprised she couldn't invite them all.  Le sigh.

Anyway, what's everyone else up to this weekend?

Re: NMMR: Weekend Plans and a Facebook Face-Palm

  • Pig roast with friends and a lot of cleaning before I leave for another week for work. It should be a good and relatively cheap weekend which is all we can ask for!

@Xstatic.... yeah, that's pretty bad.  I'm from a part of the country where people do get married young, but it's usually 22-23... so after college.

No big plans for this weekend.  Just trying to pack, inventory, and spend as little money as possible before we move!

H got his certification to sit for the bar exam yesterday.... thank goodness because the people sent him a nasty letter late last week that his application was being pulled because they didn't have one letter of recommendation.  Nevermind the fact that the recommender had sent it TWICE by FedEx and had somebody in their office sign both times.  Anyway, the recommender sent it a THIRD time at the beginning of the week, and the state bar finally acknowledged that they received it and put it in his file.  So he has his certification card to get in now.  Anyway, H will be studying, and I'll be packing in another room most of the weekend so I don't distract him.

  • Yikes, thats young! I, myself couldn't have made such a decision at that young of an age...I was still very immature.

Friday- Bringing pizza to the parents house and going shopping with my mom

Saturday- Kayaking, lunch and possibly river tubing with some friends

Sunday- Probably cleaning/laundry, gym, biking or walking

Next week Tues/Wed- We are staying overnight at the casino and then going to Newport, RI the next day. Can't wait! A mini vacay haha.

Ooo I love Newport! If you like spicy food check out Diego's. It's cheap by Newport standards and so tasty!
  • Yeah, that's pretty bad!!!
Ds is 1 today so tonight we may take him out for ice cream or something to celebrate. Tomorrow then is his party. And on Sunday dh wants to drive to the new house to see what progress they have made this week. My sister is getting back into town tonight so we may take her with to show her the area

Happy Birthday to your little one!

As for me, kinda boring weekend.

Tonight: Going to grab food for dinner, I'm just not sure where, finishing the laundry, then relaxing the rest of the afternoon/night. DH started working nights last Sunday so I've been going to be around 9:30-10:00.

Tomorrow: I'm planning on tackling DD's closet to start making room for DD#2's things. I'm also tackling the toy boxes in the living room and throwing out a bunch of things. I would also like to wash the bathroom carpet and soak the pack n play in the bathtub.

Sunday: DH is taking Saturday night into Sunday off so he can go to a judo competition on Sunday morning. I'm planning on tackling any other cleaning task that I want to do (like the pantry or linen closet) until DH gets home. Then I'll relax the rest of the day.

  • DH is going to be fixing the lawn mower (again) and cleaning out the other side of the garage this weekend; if he doesn't go fishing with my dad all day on Saturday.

I'm planning to remain holed up in my office working on my dissertation.  Tomorrow, I have to make a run to the grocery and stop at Big Lots for their 20% off sale.  I like to stock up on paper products when they do those extra discounts.

Should be a pretty quiet (and cheap) weekend...
  • SMH.  We live in a part of the country where most get married young, I was by far the last of my friends to marry at 31 and now at 32, all of my friends have at least one child if not more.  I had some amazing experiences as a single woman in my mid-twenties that I wouldn't trade for the world, and can't imagine where I'd be had I married the men I dated at 18, 22 or even 25.  (Divorced, I'm pretty sure!)

As for the weekend, I have a hair appointment on Sunday afternoon, otherwise no real plans.  I'm going to Hawaii in a week with my mom so I'm sure I'll spend some time ironing, packing and getting the house ready and the fridge and freezer stocked for H while I'm gone for 10 days.

  • That is definitely an odd message to send out the day of the wedding.  However, it's very usual for people to get married that young in our area, so that part doesn't surprise me.

Tonight: Grilling out and chilling on the patio.  I just may grab my book and sit out there till the sun goes down (weather permitting).
Tomorrow: 3 mile run with the running group, then absolutely nothing planned.  I will probably get some cleaning done and the mounds of laundry tackled.  I had an aunt and friend give me 3 boxes of maternity clothes.  So those need washed up and put aside for whenever I need to start wearing them.
Sunday: Church, then H is going to a friends house for the day.  So I will likely do some more cleaning, watch some tv, and hopefully organize our closet.

  • Such a strange message to put out there on facebook.  she's definitely young.

I think we're refinishing our countertops this weekend...I'm going to have to decide when I get out of work if I can handle not having a kitchen for 5-6 days...fortunately it's grilling season, probably the best time to do it if there were one. Side-note, any suggestions for keeping cats off the counter?

friday: probably sanding and priming the counters...with a glass of wine...after I make 2 batches of banana bread.

Saturday: painting/sealing counters. and a BBQ at a friend's that night.

Sunday: another coat of sealant on the counter.  Our 2nd anniversary is on Monday, so we'll probably go out to lunch or dinner or something.

  • Wow that is so young! I had been dating DH for a year or two by that age, but there was no way I'd have been ready to get married. I wish them all the best!

Today: Friday evenings are boring for me since DH works M-F nights. I'll probably go out for a jog after work and then watch tv or something, assuming I get motivated to actually do some work today. I work from home and some days it's really hard to get motivated when you're just sitting at home by yourself day after day.

Saturday: Early Morning Kayaking with DH, back in time to watch the Brazil World Cup Game (not even sure I want to watch it after seeing my home team get totally destroyed in their last game, lol)

Sunday: DH has his monthly massage, so I'm planning on driving him there and doing some shopping at our local Brazilian stores to pick up some food staples while he's doing that. We're having some friends over to watch the World Cup final that afternoon, and will probably end up playing a pick-up soccer game afterwards.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!
  • So young and that message proves that. I hope it all works out.

Today - relaxing until my doctor's appt. I start my every 2 weeks appts. I feel like I just found out! Then writing thank you cards while watching Netflix.

Saturday - cleaning then buy buy baby to pick up the stroller / car seat.

Sunday - ikea for nursery furniture. I've been saving for it, but I know it's gonna be a good chunk of change.

  • 45 people have now "liked" the FB invite. Perhaps this is the new normal? She's been very gracious for the most part (quick shower TYs, etc.) except when social media gets involved.

As for the wedding in general, I try not to stress the age. I mean they have decent jobs lined up, she's enrolled in college, and they have a place to live and a budget, which is more than some late-20s couples. I do feel bad for H's reaction, though. He'd never let it on to her, but he's got a protective older brother relationship to her and is really worried/a little sad about this wedding. I told him I'll DD :)
  • Social media scares me with things like this.

I like Facebook and all but this morning I went to write a casual message on my friend's wall and noticed the message that had been posted there just minutes before:

"I take it you did not see the invite I sent you on here for my shower which is tomorrow?  Are you coming?"

You know, I'm honestly pretty much over FB.  I don't know about you guys, but I would say that 80% of my newsfeed comes from the same 25 people.  I like looking at photos once in awhile, but other than that...

I had to start wearing maternity clothes on week 8.  People told me it was because I was so petite, that any bulge was really obvious on me.  Unfortunately I kept growing and somehow managed to gain 76 pounds.  I'm already so active now that I plan to be active much more when I am pregnant the 2nd time.

We got back in town from Sanibel very late wens. night.  My aunt passed away on tues of this week so last night was visitation and today was the funeral.  I played amazing grace for the funeral.  So I'm kinda glad the weekend is here so I can rest up.  I have to play a wedding tomorrow night, but that's my only for sure plan.  We will probably start unpacking things from the trip, go to the grocery store for much needed food and just relax.

  • @katiecutie05 Oh trust me, there definitely isn't a whole lot of energy there.  I have to exercise in the morning otherwise I'm done for.  My goal is to train for a run a half marathon at 20 weeks, then I will just do my regular 6-8 mile long runs up until my body doesn't like it.  However, I usually exercise 5-6 days/week.  So this is the norm for me.

As far as maternity clothes, my pants definitely don't button and I just pulled out the bellaband for my dress pants yesterday.  That thing is amazing!

  • I have one very long weekend starting today.  I don't have to go back to work until the 21st and will be on the beach as much as Mother Nature will allow.  The greater Cleveland area is calling for rain off and on through Wed.
