random Friday thoughts

Hi ya'll!

Happy Friday!

I have a MM related random...

I'm a bridesmaid in a wedding this summer and I just heard back from the bridge that to get my hair done, it will be costing me $90. I know this probably varies by area quite a bit but does that seem unreasonable to you?? That's about the price I paid for my hair at my own wedding ($55 for my BMs)...

Any random thoughts going on with you guys?? :)

Re: random Friday thoughts

  • I hate FHA loans- both our offers are FHA and I've been told that one of the many things we may have to pay for depending upon the appraiser who comes through is a termite inspection. And then anything he wants/needs us to fix.

  • That seems high to me...but I live in the sticks. where's the wedding?

Is the bride requiring BMs to get their hair done? I *think* etiquette wise the only think BMs are required to pay for are their dresses...anything the beyond that the bride is saying you *must* do she should be covering. there's a little nuance to that...I offered that I'd book appointments for my BMs to get their hair done, but that was 100% optional and they could do whatever they wanted...my sister got a blow-out, several wanted up-dos, and one just opted to wear her's half-up half down and did it herself.

  • That seems high for bridesmaid hair-do...

I'm annoyed with myself.  I've been budgeting for bridal showers, weddings, baby showers, graduations.  It looks great on paper but then I go to pick an item(s) off the registry and I want to break the budget I worked so hard on.

It seems unreasonable to me, but then I did my own hair for my wedding and so did everyone else who was a part of the day.  I may not be the best judge.
  • Seems a little high to me.  I think I paid $60 for my one BM and a little less for my mom (who has short hair).

And I agree that asking this is rude, but then again, I also think it's rude for brides and grooms to dictate the dress of their wedding party and not pay for that too.

  • I mean...she IS giving us the "option" but it's a really fancy wedding and my hair is a bird's nest more often than not. It's really thick and unmanageable. The wedding is in NY so I sort of understand the high cost but it was originally quoted as $30 lower. I'll pay it but I'm not particularly thrilled about it. I paid for my own BMs (including her) for my wedding. Blah.

  • I paid $100 for hair and make-up, but I don't remember what I paid for the bridesmaids..

I'm just so glad this week is over. I have been covering 1/2 a workload of a co-worked who is out on vacation and Wed and Thurs were crazy freakin busy. I really hate covering for people when they are out because my work falls to the wayside. I'm glad it's pretty slow today so it doesn't kill my mood for going out tonight, I don't wanna just pass out on the couch from exhaustion ha.

Generally, if she requires that hair be done by a certain salon, she pays.  She can say, "wear it up" or "wear it down" but if it's like, "Your hair must be done by Greta, my Swiss hair stylist" then that's on her.

Same with shoes or accessories - bride can dictate color/general style, but not a specific shoe.  If she dictates a specific shoe, she pays.  The only thing bridesmaids are obligated to buy are dresses.

I was in a Korean wedding once where the bride wanted our make-up and hair done by particular Korean salons to get a consistent look.  She paid.

For my own wedding, I just asked them to wear it down however they wanted.  Nobody got their hair done, including myself.

At the place I went for my wedding, BM hair was $85. I made it very clear that it was totally optional, but most had it done anyway. A couple did a simple blow dry or went to their regular stylist. It might be worth shopping other salons in the area and telling them it's for a fancy party, not a wedding. Wedding=upcharge!

On the FHA thing, wouldn't the buyer want their own termite inspection done no matter what? We definitely didn't want to skimp on that. I'm glad we did radon, too. It came back high, but the previous owner had lived there for 8 years without knowing. For something harmful that can be remedied for $800-yikes!

Either way it sounds annoying. Hope you get a conventional offer soon!
  • my bridesmaids were 60 i think and i felt bad about that. A few were a little cheaper because they werent doing full updos. I did call up a few places before that for pricing though and it was more then that for bridesmaids. unfortunately thats not unheard of for bridesmaids. ofcourse a regular updo would cost half the price but you know the second you say the word "wedding" and they double the price.

  • It's been a long time for me.  For both of my wedding the bridesmaids got their hair done, but I didn't really require it.  I do think that $90 seems a bit high.  It's not like she is coloring your hair or anything, unless it's some sort of complicated up do.

Random for me - DD behaved pretty well over the vacation because DH was there most of the time, but now that it's back to normal routine she is being her crazy self.  I got my eye poked today and now I have a lovely red spot in the white of my eye.  Dear lord, I hate 3.

  • My step mom paid all hair and makeup and I honestly couldn't tell you what it cost.

My random is that H and I are breaking the budget to get a new kitten for our anniversary. It will be about $200 and we only budgeted $100 for gifts. I know we should be delaying gratification and all that jazz but this is the one time in the last 18 months I really don't care what I should be doing. Haha.

  • I was trying to get out of work at 4 pm today since I am now officially on vacation but one thing lead to another and it wasn't until 6:25 that I actually left, just when MW arrived at the restaurant 20 minutes away from work.  I got there just after the drinks arrived and she had ordered an appetizer.  Because of a gift card all we really had to pay was the tip.
  • good for you alyssa, that little kitty will give back more that you pay for it :)
