Soooo, I have an old Kindle fire and a really old Kindle 2nd generation (the one with a keypad). The Kindle Fire doesn't really hold a charge anymore. The Kindle2 works fine, but it doesn't have the backlight like the paperwhites, and it is heavier as well.
I can't decide if I want to buy a paperwhite, which is really nice, light, and great for reading. Or the Fire HDX which is more of a true tablet (I don't own an ipad or anything). I would get use out of both. Currently, I use my Kindle2 when traveling for reading and to schlep around, since it's lighter than the Fire and there's no glare when I'm reading in the sun. I use my Fire at home when I read ebooks, and would use the newer one to surf the web and watch Netflix or Prime videos.
So, what do you all think? Update my old Kindle 2 and remain tablet-less, or splurge an get the Fire, but still only have the ancient Kindle2 for travel/outdoor reading?
FWP, I know.

I don't have a tablet either (or a smartphone) but given the fact that I wanted my kindle for reading not the internet/games I am very very very happy. However if you feel you need a tablet for other things than go for it.
But personally I vote for the paperwhite!
Yes, you restore facotry settings and then your mom can add it to her account. If you have lots of books, you could just give her it and that way she could read the books you've bought.
