Boston Ladies

DH and I are thinking of going to Boston next month.

Any recommendations on what to see and do while we're there?

I remember talk a while back of a summer GTG. Is that happening (or maybe it did already, I suppose)?

If we go, we'll probably be there 8/14-8/19.

    Seriously, go there.

What are you guys in to? I mean Boston has something for everyone so I never know how to respond. Are you in to the history? The ocean? (Boston Harbor Islands are open and are worth a walk around) the bar scene? The art scene? The scene scene? Check out the North end, for sure and Newbury street is fun to walk around. I love the Copley area in general. There is SO much to do. I need direction to point you to things you'll love.

DH is really into history, and I don't dislike it, so we would definitely like to see some stuff in that arena. We're also food people, so restaurant suggestions would be delightful (though we're students, so on a bit of a budget). I grew up in California and moved to the midwest 5 years ago, so the ocean is always a plus! Especially if there's not too much sand and wind involved...

Edit: We're going to visit my sister and her boyfriend primarily, but we'll be there for a week and they have lives and jobs and such, so we're planning to do our own thing a fair amount. Her boyfriend is in grad school at Harvard, so presumably we'll actually be in Cambridge and we'll probably spend evenings/nights with them, so probably rather low-key nights-wise.

  • You can do the Harbor Islands for pretty cheap (My H runs the Island ferry so you will be safe on the boat) Cambridge is neat and there is a rich history there. Harvard square is awesome! Fanueil Hall is pretty awesome and there is a lot of stuff to do in that area. Visit the Common and Public Gardens they are gorgeous in the summer. (Swan boat ride: do it!) There are all sorts of tours of all of the historical landmarks, too!
