PCOS ladies with long cycles

If/ When you did temp was it helpful or just frustrating? I'm wondering if I should give it another shot or just stick with OPKs.

Re: PCOS ladies with long cycles

  • The only time temping/charting was useful for me was when I was in regulated Clomid cycles. Besides that, my cycles are weeks of bleeding, weeks of nothing, rinse, repeat. Then randomly I ovulate. Womp womp.

  • Twinsies! Except, to my knowledge, I have never ovulated without meds. And sometimes not even then lol! What do you think I should do? Try it for a cycle the next time my body randomly decides to have a period or just forgo it all together?
  • Can't hurt to try!

It just frustrated me. But then again, so did opks due to all the false positives. :( but I agree, it can't hurt to try. If you get frustrated, give the thermometer the boot.

  • @spin25 so I should give it the boot now ;-) hehe.
  • At first it frustrated me because nothing would really happen.  But when I upped my Metformin dosage and did acu and started actually having cycles, it was helpful then.

  • Frustrating!!! But that goes for temping AND opks. Yet I still chart my temps (except now because I'm waaay past the possibility range this cycle) It makes me crazy, yet I don't want to miss it in the rare chance I ovulate on my own. Sucks.

I dont technically have PCOS but my RE treats me as such because that's the closest thing they can figure out for me, and he said temping was a waste of time for me since I don't ovulate at all on my own.  Once I started meds they monitor me so closely that I figure that takes care of it for me anyway.

  • I always did just so I could know whether or not I would be wasting my time on testing.  It was mostly helpful once I started doing different diet changes.  Then I noticed how different my temps were from the start of the cycle, and knew the diet was doing something.

Do you get false positives on OPK's?  My body always seemed to gear up to O around CD14ish, would give me EWCM and a positive OPK, but then would never give a temp spike. That was where I liked temping along with the OPK's, because otherwise I would have thought I O'd.

  • It was helpful if I actually o'ed but frustrating in an annovulatory cycle. Have your cycles regulated at all after M? It might be worth a shot and if it gets frustrating just quit.

This is what OPKs do for me, except it could happen at any point in the cycle. It frustrated the crap out of me. Heck, I even got false positives and then false negatives on medicated cycles. I have finally all but given up on using OPKs. I still do on a rare occasion, but not regularly. *sigh*

  • @brij2006‌ I have only ever gotten a + during treated cycles, but every time I use an opk a second line appears sometimes it is close to positive, but isn't positive. I get EWCM a lot so I can never trust it!

@ecinereb‌ they don't appear to be any different, but I don't want to jump right back to the RE.
  • You could always give it a shot and see if it shows you anything or gives you peace of mind with the OPK's and CM.  If you find it frustrating or not helpful, then stop.
