Anxiety

Does anyone have any experience with anxiety disorders? I've noticed stuff with me that has been getting worse. I'm stressed about keeping our routine and worrying about what comes next. Its getting to where I can't enjoy the present b/c I'm thinking about everything else that needs to be done. Example...last night, we were in the pool and I kept checking the time so I could get out and start dinner. Its starting to really bother DH and am scared that M will be too.

Re: Anxiety

  • My mom has anxiety. She's been on meds my entire life, mostly Prozac. I'm pretty type a, but I haven't noticed myself get to the extreme. It's always a worry I have. Jeff is my balance... He helps me calm down and not stress.

I don't think because you have it, M will. But she might pick up on some of your tendencies. My mom will have a list for everything and I do the same thing. But I think that helps focus our minds to want needs done. Jeff made the comment this weekend he feels we are always on the go but nothing is getting done. I plan to make a list tonight with him so he can see things getting crossed off. Maybe if your worried about time, set an alarm so you can enjoy the now, and promise yourself not to look until it goes off.

I think if it's bothering you and H, you might want to talk to your doctor.

  • I should have added, my mom is on meds because she will worry herself into a panic attack. I don't think just because you have anxiety you have to be on meds. Maybe just talking to someone will help, or finding ways to help like timers or lists...

  • I sorta deal with it. Not enough to go on meds, but there has been times/certain things that trigger it. I'm not a type A personality at all, but if there is something major going on or a problem that needs to be resolved, I know how you feel with the panic attacks.

My grandmother and aunt both suffer from anxiety as well and medicine works wonders for them. Even just a low dose of something sometimes helps tremendously. Sorry you're experiencing this, it's a horrible feeling.

  • Thanks everyone. I'm.not so much worried about M getting it, but I don't want my mood and attitude to affect her. I was always worried about my moms mood growing up. She always took on too much causing her to stress. She never said no to anyone. Then stuff would built up and she would flip out. Looking back now, it was a very unhealthy way for me to grow up. I have a lot of struggles as an adult that when I look back realize that it was the way my parents were.
