Kid help:accidents (potty)
I need help with dd and accidents. She goes through phases of having accidents on and off ever since she was PTed. She is 6 now and this has been off and on for 4 years.
During the day it's small accidents but it's still a pain because she needs a change of underwear although not full clothes change thank goodness.
But the last few weeks it has moved to bedtime accidents. She never had these even when newly PTed. They are driving me nuts because she wakes up in the middle of the night hysterically crying...won't tell us what is wrong and then you have to force her to get changed and go potty. She just woke up (midnight) and would not get out of bed that was soaked in pee!! And then doesn't want to go potty! Ugh!!!!!
This is the 3rd time this week and one night she had a 2nd accident an hour after the first even though I did get her to go potty after the first. How is that possible?!?
Any advice? What can I do about nighttime? I am sick of changing sheets in the middle if the night and dealing with the hysterics! We are making her go potty before bed. I guess we can try limiting fluids at night. But tonight was a soccer night so she drinks a lot during the game.

Re: Kid help:accidents (potty)
The night ones are definitely a new thing and never happened when she had these phases before.
Should I just try something like the good nites? Anyone tried those? They have real underwear ones with inserts, kinda like pads. Not sure if dd will like that or not. Or maybe I can put down a pad for the bed to at least avoid sheet changes.
Todd had regular accidents for a long time after he trained and still has a couple a month. Usually the daytime ones are because he’s being stubborn about going and waits until the last minute. The only positive now is that he can change his own clothes. :-) FWIW, I use vinegar in every load of his laundry to make sure there are no “surprise” smells that linger.
For the first six months after he trained, he was totally dry at night. And then his sleep changed. At the same time he learned to sleep past 6am (I think he started sleeping deeper and better overall), he started having accidents every.single.night. At first we thought it was a phase, but after six weeks or so, I ordered cloth training pants. Two years later and I finally feel like he’s dry often enough that it is worth trying without them.
When we travel, I use the good nites. They work well and assuming that it is a physical change that she can’t control, it is probably a good interim thing to do. We tried the underwear with the cotton pad, and those weren’t absorbent enough for a real accident. They work well if a kid pees a little and then goes in the potty, but they aren’t sufficient for a bladder emptying event.
All that said, it wouldn’t hurt to get her checked for a UTI, especially because of the overnight issue. Or call the nurse line and talk it over with someone at the doctor’s office. It doesn’t hurt to ask.
Mason still has overnight accidents a few times a week. We use Huggies Overnight diapers, because we are already using those for Garrett. We tried the Good Nights, and they worked great, but he didn't seem bothered by wearing a diaper and the Huggies are cheaper, so we stuck with those. He did say something once recently about wearing a diaper, so I've been putting his underwear on over the diaper, and he seems fine with it. I also use vinegar in the wash for any accidents.
I would also check with the pedi about a possible UTI or anything else you might want to look out for.
