Pet Sitter

So as you all probably know, I have a cat. Not just any ordinary, boring cat though. I have a very big, spoiled, opinionated, curious 23 pound maine coon cat who thinks he's more like a dog. When we were in California, it was easy enough just to load him up in the crate for a 3 hour drive to go visit family to go for a weekend trip. If Jared and I ever needed to go somewhere, like for our honeymoon, my parents would watch him at their house, no problem. Well, now we live out of state. And no basically no one, especially no one we would trust with the cat. So I've spent way too much time researching licensed, bonded, and insured pet sitters who would come out once a day to make sure he's okay. This is giving me waaay too much anxiety, leaving him alone for the weekend. I've had him since he was 2 weeks old. I'm okay leaving him, but worry because he's very picky about other people. I worry about a basic stranger trying to come into the apartment to check on him and he not liking it/letting them in (he's always first to the door to see who is here).

So yes, that was a very long paragraph leading up to say I just called the pet sitting company and liked who I talked to (it's a husband/wife couple who does pet sitting/dog boarding/dog walking for a living). We've set up a meet and greet. If I have this much anxiety about finding a sitter for my cat, I have no idea how people find baby sitters for a kid. Bleeeeeeh.

I'm going to go eat some ice cream. Here are some furbaby pictures to thank you for reading this long, anxiety induced rant.

Re: Pet Sitter

  • I wish I had a friend to recommend, but I guess we never talked cats. The people I know up that way are dog people.

Finding a sitter for a kid is ridiculous. Can't we just all live in the same neighborhood?
  • I would totally trade services. We could all watch each other's kids, check on each other's animals, etc! Let's just all relocate

  • I have read good things about Petsmart.  It isn't a come in service, but a drop off. We found them when we were looking for a guinea pig sitter.  We found a lady who boards GPS and she is fantastic.  It is seriously like a vacation for them because she over feeds them, get get their nails done, and fee time.  I called her every couple of days when we left them the first time. Anyways, once you find the right one, you'll know!  For both kitty and baby!
  • Every petsmart i've looked into do dog boarding only since most cats do better in their own environment, including my cat. A couple winters ago, my cat ate part of a bath loofah and needed to stay overnight at the vet for fluids to flush it out of his system and to make sure it passed. He didn't eat and wouldn't let anyone in the cage to do anything. They called us at 8am the next morning asking if we could swing by. Nik immediately began rubbing up against the cage, purring, etc. He needs his own environment, so just have to find someone who we will trust to come in, check on him, make sure his water and food is full, and play a bit.

The couple is coming over this Wednesday at 7pm. Fingers crossed it works out and we all like them! O_O

  • I hope it works out for you!
  • We've only used family as baby sitters and pet sitters. So far we haven't needed a pet sitter here but when we do it'll be the same issues for us. Our kitty is very picky about people but she just hides under the bed.

  • My parents always just had a neighbor stop by. The cats won't come out and play, but at least they are fed.
