Re: Edited due to Terms of Use Violations.

  • Don't ask what this area is like. We are funding schools, housing and hospital care for a  bunch that do not belong here at all.

The rule of thumb used to be deport if no proof you're a resident alien or viaed. Since when did that law change?

We can't keep our doors open for people who do not come here via the right route. Our schools are full; we have limited housing and our facilities are stretched to the max.
  • Oh Tarpon it is a freaking JOKE!!!  I am in California, Southern California so I am sure you can only imagine.  It is truly sad.  Nobody speaks english anymore  Have to speak spanish to even get many jobs. WTF is happening to our country?  Our kids are suffering in school because of the kids that are not supposed to be here.  Parents cannot help them so even though they get free education their parents do not understand and just send their kids to school for our teachers to handle them.

What happened to our laws?  Why are they not being enforced? I am wide open to immigrants.  Immigrants who come here the right way the way my ancestors did.  Waited in line just how it should be.  Learned the language and love THIS country!

I am all for remember ing your traditions!

We still have Polish churches, Italian churches and Irish churches and etcetera and there are still neighborhoods that are as such. That's great.

But when our parents got here, they learned the lnanguage and learned the traditions. This is your country now; when in Rome and it is only right and proper.

We have a hospital not far from me that is considered to be a "sanctuary" hospital --- the area has changed and instead of Poles,Germans and Filipinos and blacks its now exclusively Mexican.

The hospital is on its last leg financially; personally, I think they permitted that investment group to buy it to keep it open for the Mexicans.

2 gigantic new schools were built, all because that's the only group that is moving into that town.

I worked at that hospital a million years ago in my first career and the area was nothing like it is now.

The Mexicans will probadly duke it out with the Orthodox Jews that are also living there; everhthing there seems to be a shoot out between the 2 groups. That's a whole other story.

I'm sick of hearing "press 2 for Spanish" and I'm sick of trilingual packaging. It all adds UP!

You will be paying more for the product because of the additional ink that it takes to print 2 more languages on the package.

    It costs more for everhything.

On the other hand, there is a fella who was valedictorian of his class -- he came here from the Dominican Republic 4 years ago and did not speak a word of English. New grad of one of the local high schools.

He intensively learned the language and he refused to be placed in Spanish-only high school classes.

Too bad more immigrants can't be more like him. Pathetic, really --- what a great country. Free money, free housing, free school and free everything.

And for this same reason --- we are out of resources and we need to take care of our own -- the visaed guest workers that are H1B  and others need to be sent the hell home, and pronto.

No more nurses and allied health care workers from the Phillipines, no more IT people from India and no more guest workers of any kind. Send them all BACK.

These are cultural issues and language barrier problems and who cares if you have an "anchor baby." Send them all back.

And it isn't just Spanish they speak: it is dialects. How in heck can we keep up with who knows how many dialects?

Dangerous -- because if it's spoken anywhere anyplace, how do you know what kind of illegal activity may accompany it?

I am also sick of the gang action these groups are bringing in: it's the MS13 the Columbian groups and others.

    Send them all back.

We are also bearing the brunt of the load with the Egyptians and Syrians and Muslims that are coming here legitimately --- where do we put everyone? How many more schools are we going to build? How many more teachers are we going to hire to cater to these groups?  Every single resource and utility we have is stretched to the max.
  • Oh girl I totally agree with you. Oh and when you speak of it, you are considered racist.  It has nothing to do with race.  It is whether you take on the country in which you choose to reside on or what.  It drives me crazy.  Well I am protesting tomorrow!  It may not say much but I gotta do something. Writing to our governers and such seem to do shit!  They care more about these non americans than their own people!  IT is absolutely sad and pisses me off!!!!

    image

  • Racist? That's now under the guise of "insulting" a "special interest group."

When you go to another country to live, you adopt all customs and "musts" of that country, along with learning the language! IF I moved to Mexico or France or Spain or Germany or any other country, you bet I'd be expected === no, required --- to learn the language.

And except for airports, there are no bilingual signs in those countries.

And that we've got different groups speaking different languages and not just one is dividing a country, not unifying it.
  • Amen to that!  It is old! It is like things have become reverse racism. It is a freaking joke.  I could go on all day about this topic.  No joke!  We the AMERICAN PEOPLE need to get our heads out of our asses and grow a pair and stick up for what is ours and what we believe in!  People need to quit being afraid of offending someone and speak up for what they believe. I truly feel this is what has happened now and nobody wants to be considered that!

I think that is what this country is, stand up for what you believe.  No, we aren't always going to agree, but people get so butthurt about everything these days nobody speaks up!

If I were to join another country, live there, work etc damn well would I WANT to learn their ways.  Learn their language. Out of RESPECT!  Respect the country in which you are!  I would never disrespect another persons culture, especially if I was in it!

I am all for being proud of your heritage!  Of course I am, but you don't see me waving their flags, speaking that language.  No I am a PROUD AMERICAN and I am proud of MY FLAG!  I just wish our damn govt would stand up as well.

People, if they are so proud of where they came from and don't want to accept OUR culture then GET THE FUCK OUT!!! Just saying! ;)

None of them have anything that they can bring to our table: no skiills and no training and no education.

(It should have been the same thing in 1980 when the Freedom Flotilla happened: why should be be obligated to accept every single Cuban that was released? We knew nothing of their background. Perhaps these were criminals or those who are sick and have some kind of infectous disease)

I just got done reading about the refugee youths that are coming accross our borders. Yes it is sad they are on the run. Yes, it is sad there are here alone. But,again, we are not obligated to accept them: we also do not know the circumstances of these children or *why* exactly they are here. They could have been released from mental institutions or anything else. For all we know, there are runaways and their parents are frantically looking for their children.

We do not know what is involved: do we really need to open that can of worms?

Who will take these kids in, not even knowing the child's full backstory? This is a large risk for a foster parent or people who run a group home or wherever it is they are going to be placed.

Get them a meal and a shower and a bed for the night and next morning, return them whence they came: Across the border!

Where do we put all of these kids??? They are of many ages! Suppose they are 15 or 16 and cannot read or write Spanish; where in what school system do we place them? What do we do with them when we get here?

How in heck are we supposed to accommodate all of these kids??? And why are there so many kids that are crossing the border by themselves?

And are they speaking Spanish? Could be it is a dialect or one of many.

  • In every store, bilingual signs.

And the hashmark promotions for Twitter are....also in Spanish.

When does this madness end? You can't even shop in peace now?

We also have a large influx of Orthodox Jews. Asian Indians and those from the Middle East that speak Arabic.

I have also seen job ads that say "must speak Arabic." Or that say "Must speak Hindu."

How many more languages are we going to have everything translated into??? How many more "Press X for...." options are we going to  hear when we call a company's main number?  What's next? How many more of these "groups" are we going to cater to?

    The main point:

You are here in the United States and this is now your country. Learn the language. And we should stop being patsies for these groups.
  • Exactly!  If this stupid Gov't wouldn't make it so easy for them not to have to and so difficult for their citizens then everyone would be content!  It is frustrating!  I was shopping today and all I hear is Spanish.  It is old!  I am sick and tired of it!

What I don't get is why it isn't a necessity for them to learn all of our ways before even being allowed citizenship or even residency!  We are giving them the opportunity!  Not the other way around.  This country is becoming a bunch of pansies. Man up and make the law the law!  Make the people we are allowing into OUR country to become US!  Make them respect our ways and that is that.

I   know that if that was a necessity then they would do it!  They would learn if that was their only way to stay here and work etc.  What a joke!  The "regular" people are getting screwed!  The real American people are losing their ways and sooner or later there will be no English even spoken here anymore.  That is how it is becoming in So Cal anyways.  I am fed up!

Okay, we're taking about a population group that's one of the smallest in the world.  If you separate Orthodox from others… MAYBE 3 million people worldwide.
    1. It's a religion, so not a ethnicity or cultural group by definition
    2. I have many family members who border on Orthodox.  They all speak perfect English and came here legally, most generations ago, but some more recently.  Orthodox Jews often speak Yiddish, but wouldn't consider it to be their primary language.  The Jews who exist outside of the US and Israel are almost none as they have been wiped out of the rest of the world.  American Jews and Israeli Jews both live in countries where English is the dominant language and they speak it.
    3. Perhaps you are referring to Hasidic Jews.  In that case, they do generally speak English as well, but speak Yiddish in the home.  Check your facts.

I have no issue with having LEGAL immigration.  Your post makes me think that you do.  We are a country of immigrants and those people make our country stronger.  My husband is one of those "asian Indians" to which you referred.  He came here legally and is a naturalized citizen.  What exactly was your point by pointing out immigrant groups??

I am a staunch libertarian.  I believe that business should be allowed to cater to their customers, even if that means having personal that speaks in another language.  I have no issue with this- it's called FREE MARKET.  I have a huge issue with government catering to this because I don't believe that my government should be deciding that those people do not have to speak English to belong in our society.  I have a huge problem with immigrants who have no desire to learn English.

My husband came here barely knowing a word of English and now speaks English without an accent- people usually think he was born in NY as that is the accent he has.  His entire family of Hindi speaking people all speak lovely English and operate their lives in the English speaking world.
  •  I have a huge issue with government catering to this because I don't believe that my government should be deciding that those people do not have to speak English to belong in our society.  I have a huge problem with immigrants who have no desire to learn English.

This exactly!!!  This is my problem! Why does OUR government not cater to the people who have wanted to become a part of our country yet do not make them learn our language.  I get upset!  When my great grandparents came here they learned the language they worked hard, they even changed their name a bit.

I commend your husband, I wish people did do this and wanted to learn the language of our land.  I hear ya on the government not making them have to.  It frustrated the crap out of me.

They want us all to become one people yet they continue to divide us.  Why?  I think it is amazing how we do have so many walks of lives from so many parts of the world and that is what makes this country so awesome!  I just wish we could all accept that when we are here, you take in the American way!  You want to come here so bad to live the American dream, then take it all in and be proud!

It's important to remember that we only notice those who don't want to learn to speak English, but most immigrants realize that to become successful here, they must learn the language.  Those people are those who come here to build better lives for themselves off of hard work.
  • American's not a language, though.
    Who called the language "American"??
Y'all are going on an on about 'our' language, but Americans don't technically have one. Sure, a lot of us speak English, but that doesn't make it 'our' language.

I knew what you meant.  Plenty of countries have English as their primary language.  Having a language named after your country doesn't mean it's not the country's primary language.  It's true we have no national language, but that doesn't mean that we don't have a language that is accepted in society.  If you wish to make yourself successful, then you put your best foot forward and do everything you can to be successful, including learning the language in which business is done in this country.

When you all have your village and home burned to the ground, your daughters and wives raped, and have run out of viable options to the point that sending your kids to a far off land...if they even get there safely...is all you have...then you can put on all the marches and rallies you want.

Until then, I say we have no clue what these people have been through. If you can turn your back on these children, God help you.

As far as the rest of your hate filled rhetoric...it's not even worth commentary. It must be a sad, sheltered world you would like to live in.

I don't agree with what she said or how she said it either (see my post above), but I would suggest actually pointing out to what you disagree with and why instead of cheaply calling it "hate filled rhetoric".  Be an adult and say what you don't agree with in an intelligible way.  We are here to have a discussion about a political topic.

My great grandparents were Jews who came here to escape persecution from a variety of different countries.  These were people whose villages had actually been raped and pillaged.  They also learned English.  Having escaped horrors is no excuse for not learning a language that will bring you success.  I have no sympathy for immigrants who won't do whatever is necessary to learn a language that will bring themselves to a better place in life.  Like I said in my previous posts, my husband and many members of his family came to this country barely knowing a smattering of English.  They all speak beautiful English now and have built successful careers and families.

If I moved to say… China, I would learn Mandarin... or Klingon!  Whatever it took if it meant that I could fully participate in the world around me and build financial stability for myself.

OH and are we actually talking about the Mexican children?  I literally cannot understand why anyone would send their children off without adults.  During the Holocaust people sent their children in boxes to people in England, but at least then two things were the case:
    1. The children faced certain death.  Like absolute, 100% chance they would be murdered.
    2. They usually sent these children in boxes to families with whom arrangements had been made.  They didn't just send the children to go wonder through Europe in search of… what?

What exactly are they hoping will happen to these children???  They have no one to care for them besides the government.

Do you have an idea how much violence is going on in many Latin American countries? I don't know specifically about Mexico, but many others are facing extreme violence and poverty. I'm not saying it's right to ship off your kids with no one to take care of them but if it's between that and a high probability of death, do you really have the right to judge these people?

    1. Like you said, it's not right to ship your children off with no one to take care of them.  That was my only point.  You are taking what I said and making it something it's not.
    2. I have plenty of sympathy for those who live in countries like those in central america.  I do not believe that the US can take care of the world however.  We have to take care ourselves.
    3. There are children living in countries like those in central america all over the globe, unfortunately.  It's devastating, but you don't see thousands of children in other countries being abandoned by their parents.  And if they were, I'd still think they were wrong.
    4. We are probably the only country that wouldn't pack those children up and send them right back to where they came from without a second thought.  Which is exactly why they were sent here… because we wouldn't send them back without a second thought.  It's being banked on that our government will take care of them.
    5. I'm infuriated by the leaders of Mexico, Guatemala, etc, who expect us to keep these children and aren't doing a damn thing about stopping those children from crossing boarders.  How about they spend less time encouraging illegal immigration and more time making their countries better places to live?
    6. This is an extremely sore subject in my household.  My husband was born and raised in India- a country with more children living under the international poverty line than all of Africa combined.  Was his family desperate to leave India and come here to have a better life for their family?  Your damn right.  But they did it legally- they waited for years to do so.  He has ZERO sympathy for anyone who attempts to come here illegally.  He considers illegal immigrants to be a slap in his face.

And where is everyone who started this thread???  I was not the only one here with these opinions...
  • Exactly what bluebird is saying here!  It is a HUGE slap in the face for these people of America, our immigrants who I am happy to have here, who immigrated the RIGHT way!  They waited!  Yes actually WAITED!  They didn't just come over here and get a free pass just because their country they are from had problems.  This is technically not our problem.

These Central American people are sending them here, spending the thousands of dollars to get their kids here, in extremely dangerous circumstances, just because they feel they are going to be getting a free handout!  Sorry, but it is total BS and it enrages me.  Of course I feel bad for these children, but it is not our problem. WE have our own children in this country who need our help and we are unable to help. We have people dying here in our cities as well.  We also have bad people who do bad things to people!  We aren't perfect!  We need to help ourselves before we even should try to help everyone else.

The fact that so many of these immigrants, not illegal immigrants, because there is  HUGE difference!  These immigrants came here right!  We should not make it okay for these people to come here illegally and reward them!  Do we as US citizens get rewarded for doing things illegally?  NO we pay the price for whatever it is we do wrong! Why give these people who aren't citizens of our country free handouts when we cannot even give them to our own people?

This whole thing is just not right and not fair!!! Do things the right way or do not come at all!  Simple.
