I know this has been discussed before but the search function and my computer aren't getting along today. I apologize!

We have our closing schedule for Friday, and our realtor has been a rockstar throughout the whole process. He didn't help us find the house (we found it on our own by going to an open house) but has answered every question promptly, even at off hours, given us advice on the whole process, and really made everything go super easily so far. I'm especially impressed with his service since 1) we are in the very lowest price range for our area, so this won't be his biggest commission, 2) he has five closings this week alone, including selling his own house and buying a new one. We will definitely give him good word of mouth PR, and I plan on asking him if there is a local website where it would be helpful to leave a review, but I'm getting mixed messages from my IRL friends and family about whether we should do anything else.

So, homeowners on the board who loved their buyer's agent, did you give a gift?

Re: Realtor Gifts

  • I didn't even realize that giving realtors a gift was a thing until I started following this board. We didn't give out realtor anything, however we do send her a Christmas card every year.

  • None of the above.
I didn't get my real estate agent a gift, mostly because he made such a huge commission off the sale, and secondly because I wasn't all that happy with him. Even if I had been, the best gift you can give is referrals.

We had an unusual situation as our realtor developed a terminal illness during the process of our sale.  We were not thrilled with the service we got from the replacement realtor, so we did not do a thank you gift.  We did make a donation to the memorial for our original realtor.  I'm not sure we would have done anything more than a thank-you card no matter what, though.
  • Just word of mouth here. We used Redfin, which involves doing a lot of the home searching yourself and then their real estate agents help after. We had a great experience with him but still don't think a gift is necessary.

  • Thanks all. I'll probably go with word of mouth, and maybe a card since it was an especially good experience :)
  • I would do a bottle of wine or something.

Angie's List and Yelp are websites I go to when looking for reviews. Not sure if there are others that would be better, but would definitely leave feedback there.
