Tuesday Randoms

I realize that we probably can't top Amanda's recent announcement ;) , but does anyone have anything to share?  Randoms, AW's, confessions, vents, etc...I need some distractions today, so keep them coming!

I testified in a public hearing before the Pittsburgh school board last night. Does that count as random?

The hearing consisted of a mob of Montessori parents, and a mob of people against the environmental charter school expansion. It was a really interesting experience.

  • Just a vent...many of you saw on facebook the tree that came down really close to our house last week...what a headache it's been since then!  ugh.  I'm really trying to focus on the positive that it fell within just inches of our home and didn't actually smash through the roof or break windows (and of course, thankful that no one was hurt)  but....now we found out that it damaged some shingles and there is a small hole in the roof, and some minimal damage to the gutters and AC unit.  the tree was our neighbor's but PA law states that because the tree was healthy, we have to claim the damage on OUR insurance and not theirs since it fell and damaged our property.

I know things could be a whole lot worse, but it just feels like one more thing as a homeowner!

    Vent over thanks for listening!

  • Mine are super boring, but, I can't believe how fast this summer is going!  Our weekends have been pretty busy, but we haven't done anything that I hoped we would do yet.  I guess we'll be cramming it all into August!

Mason starts K in the Fall, and his school has been really good about have lots of activities and things beforehand.  It's been so helpful to ease him (and me!) into the whole thing.

My pet peeves are pedestrians who take their good ole time crossing the street and walk intentionally slow.  On the other hand, I can't stand the PAT bus drivers who turn into a pedestrian cross walk with their double decker bus without caring that there are people already in the middle of the street.

Ugh, Emmy!  That is so frustrating!  We dealt with a damaged roof and water damage a few years ago, and dealing with the repairs and insurance was such a headache, but it all worked out eventually.  Sometimes I really hate being a homeowner.

One of our trees at the lake fell on our neighbor's fence last year. My coworker and I spent an hour together researching on Lexis every aspect of the liability of falling trees.

It didn't do a ton of damage, and Steve was all excited about having an excuse to buy a chainsaw, but I did explain that we were clearing the tree part and repairing the fence as a favor, and that we had no actual liability related to this falling limb.

Then Steve and my dad played with the chainsaw and we ended up with lots of firewood.

    Yep, I'm an asshole.

  • We went to a wedding on Saturday for DH BFF's daughter. 1. It made me feel really old. 2. I really wonder what goes on in people's mind when they get dressed. Seriously, there was a guy there is camo swim trunks and a plaid short sleeve button down.

  • Meghan-the slow pedestrians drive me crazy!  I especially hate when you're just letting someone cross to be nice, not when you have to (for example-in a parking lot) and they just take their grand old time, mosey right along....sure lady, take a little stroll!  I've got nowhere to go!

  • We had a similar tree situation a few years ago too, it was our tree though, and fell into our neighbor's yard. Well, it was like half the tree, so we had to get someone to come take care of it because the other half was still standing and they were attached. What a pain! That was several hundred dollars that I could've found many better ways to spend!
  • I feel bad for saying this, but there has been too much quality family time lately. This past weekend, my family was supposed to go to MIL’s without me. They postponed because of the rain (a primary reason to go to her house is to swim) and are now going this coming weekend, which was the only weekend this month with no plans/travel.

So between the things I had scheduled to do while they were gone (assuming I was going to be alone for 24+ hours), plus the quality time we spent together (movie, dinner, ice cream), I got ZERO time to work on my computer, work on my office clean-up or work on unpacking the random bags still packed from our trips.

I’m exhausted (I didn’t sleep well while R was OOT last week) and I’m totally torn about what to do this weekend. On one hand, if I go to MIL’s I can swim with the kids and I will get some time to work on my computer without having to worry about chores, too. On the other hand, it will make for a super busy Sunday trying to catch up on chores and I’m unlikely to get time to work on my office.

    Total first world problems.

  • My grandfather, aunt, uncle and two cousins (19 & 17) came to visit this weekend.  They wanted to see our new house.  I'm super close to my aunt and DH get's along great with my uncle so it was a great visit.

However, I feel weird showing my house off, like I'm bragging or something.  Our house is a new construction, and it's very nice, but it's not extravagant or anything, but I feel like I was raised much more modestly and showing it to people makes me feel uncomfortable.  This probably sounds dumb, but it's hard to explain.

  • I win!
The only thing on my mind is this pregnancy and pregnancy related things.  The shock is gone, now it is time for the practical bits.
I already feel like my belly is in the way when I sit at my desk. it doesn't go well with my normal desk slouching.  now I have to try to sit with better posture.
i want to go home.  this day is dragging
