Re: Monday accountability

  • Weekend was good. Found some amazing clearance deals at Banana Republic outlet, so I spend $23 on 3 tanks and a dress. Got some groceries for $25 and we ate out twice that was $60.

No progress really. Got the inspection report back on our house, she's asking for a couple minor things to be fixed and we are trying to negotiate that because we don't want to do anything else, and to us the stuff is just stupid. On Sunday we drove down and walked through our new house to check the progress- all the brick was up and the hardiplank had been painted. Inside we have outlets and some light fixtures- little things like that are starting to make it feel more and more like a house!

I would rather live without running water for a week. You can always run to the store and buy water. No electricity right now would mean no AC- and it's 90ish degrees out every day so that would be horrible!

    1. How MM was your weekend? Pretty good- groceries ($128), Italian Fest ($40)
    2. Any progress towards your goals this past week? No changes- looking forward to Sept when DH is back to work and is getting his normal pay again
    3. What would you rather live without for a week- running water or electricity? Why? Electricity- we went 4 days before without it from an ice storm and it was a lot easier to deal with than no running water

  • 1. How MM was your weekend? Okay.  H went to Wisconsin for a car trip and spent his $100 budgeted, then I went to Chicago to visit some friends.  Spent $25 on eating out, $65 on gas, and $40 on groceries from Trader Joes while up there.  So not bad.
    2. Any progress towards your goals this past week?  Put $450 into savings for baby/debt snowball.
    3. What would you rather live without for a week- running water or electricity? Why?  No electricity.  I can go outside and do things during the day, then use candles at night.

    2. any progress towards your goals? just chugging along.

    3. What would you rather live without for a week- running water or electricity? Why?
In the summer-electricity, we could live without it and do things outside

  • 1. How MM was your weekend?

I don't believe we spent ANY money this weekend, it was more of a physical activity weekend, YAY!

    2. Any progress towards goals?

    Nothing to report.

    3. Would you rather be without water or electricity?

Ugh, that's a tough one, but if your asking me as of today, I could do without the running water. I would die without AC for when it get's humid.

  • 1 - We went to target to get some household items we needed to stock up on.  Hobby lobby to get a fall wreath (40% off) and some glass containers for our shells we brought back from sanibel (40% off).  Pier 1 to get some place mats we've needed for a long time (20% off).  Ate lunch out on saturday.

2 - caught up on business last friday.  I made $765 profit during the time we were on vacation. Some went to replenish the e fund and some also went into our retirement accounts.  I have a new student starting tonight.

3 - I would rather go without air.  I must have my water!

  • 1 - It was a slightly more expensive weekend. We went to Home Depot and got a few plants to fill in some bare areas of our flower beds as well as as few other small things. Saturday we went to the farm fair in our area. It was a pretty inexpensive day out though..$10 for parking, $5 for a pony ride $14 for lunch. Last week our dog was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder. I picked up her new meds and luckily they weren't too expensive..only $11 for a month's supply. Luckily I can easily work that  in the budget.

    2. Nothing major to report. We seem to be on target for our usual savings.

    3. I would rather be without electricity than water. I know I can live without electricity...went 10 days without it after Sandy and 5 days this winter without it. Water...we drink tons of it in a day...and I can't imagine not being able to at least flush the toilet every now and again.

  • 1. How MM was your weekend?
Not at all. I went to a spa and stayed in a B&B and had the most amazing food. It was all budgeted for though so that's good and the only "extra" I spent outside of that was the bottle of wine for dinner but that took place of the cocktails I planned to buy so it works right?

    2. Any progress towards your goals this past week?
While I was out of town I took all of my "cash & carry" from my direct sales stock and made $150+ that I just put into the bank. So that added money, plus the real estate it was taking up in my apartment are both big pluses for me this week.

    3. What would you rather live without for a week- running water or electricity? Why?
Electricity. I camp a lot and almost always have access to running water but no access to electricity. I'd much rather light a candle then empty poo buckets.

  • 1. How MM was your weekend?

Not very MM, but within reason I guess. Out to eat $47, $13 liquor, I was pretty on track with groceries $135, gas and fun money for both of us. Also, we bought DD#2's crib $130, and ended up buying a $900 fridge... It was a purchase we were planning on doing, but wasn't supposed to happen yet. Our fridge was starting to make me worry. It's a 14 year old, small fridge that was leaking and not getting cold enough to my liking. Plus it was just too small for our growing family. I bought the fridge from Sears Outlet and had H open up a card. It will be paid off within the 0% time frame.
    2. Any progress towards your goals this past week?
Even with all the spenditure, we were able to save $104 in our payoff account and put $100 into our vacation account.
    3. What would you rather live without for a week- running water or electricity? Why?
I would rather live without electricity. There's plenty of things I could do that doesn't involve electricity.

  • 1. How MM was your weekend? Awful. We spent $110 on hanging out in various placed with my ungrateful BIL. UGH! I am still fuming from that. We spent $75 on groceries and $30 in gas.

    2. Any progress towards your goals this past week? We put $750 away for my school this fall. Only $750 to go!

    3. What would you rather live without for a week- running water or electricity? Why? No water. We could bathe in the lake across the street and use gallon water from the store for toilets. No electric means no heat and in ME the need for heat trumps the need for water if you don't want to freeze to death while you sleep.

  • 1. How MM was your weekend? Horrible.  I have no idea how much we spent.  We went down to the river and jet skied this weekend.  Not budgeted, but my part-time job will help pay for it (we don't budget my part-time job income).

    2. Any progress towards your goals this past week? Not really...

    3. What would you rather live without for a week- running water or electricity? Why?  No electricity.  I went without running water for 2 - 21/2 weeks a couple years ago in the middle of July.  Our well went dry.  It sucked ass!  I hated that.  We would have to fill up 5 gallon buckets from the neighbors hose to even use the toliet!  It sucked doing dishes.  I think we ate out quite a bit those 2 1/2 weeks.

    1) Ours wasn't too bad.  Spent $110 at Costco for a grocery stock-up run and $50 on dinner Saturday night with some friends.

    2) No progress.  H is one week away from the bar exam (deep breaths), so we're in a holding pattern until that is done!

    3) No electricity.  I would be ok in this weather, actually, so long as I could take a shower to cool off.  If I couldn't shower or bathe, it would be like my worst nightmare.

We spent a lot this weekend.  Grocery shopping was under budget.  Had to get the dog some new toys since he decided my running shoes were a good toy, so nearly $80 there.  Lunch at Panera on Saturday, Chipotle on Sunday.  Sunday movies.  Ugh.  I get sick just thinking about it.  We're just starting on our journey to financial health, but this weekend was crazy.
    2. Any progress towards your goals this past week?
Yes!  Paid $200 towards credit cards and added an additional $25 to savings.
    3. What would you rather live without for a week- running water or electricity? Why?
Electricity.  If I got too hot, I could just hop in a cold shower.  Besides, I like to run, so I couldn't go without water for a week.

  • 1. How MM was your weekend?

I'm not happy about it but H doesn't think it was horrible. $70 for groceries for a weekend family reunion, $40 for oil change supplies for both vehicles (H does the oil changes in both of our vehicles), $20 eating on the road. I still need to get groceries for the week - we usually budget $100/wk so the $70 for the weekend is really bugging me!

    2. Any progress towards your goals this past week?

    Nope

    3. What would you rather live without for a week- running water or electricity? Why?

Um I've been without both before. I vote nearest hotel with an indoor pool!

  • 1. How MM was your weekend?  Since I was on vacation all last week, we stayed within our budget even going to Kennywood on Saturday.

    2. Any progress towards your goals this past week? Not this week.

    3. What would you rather live without for a week- running water or electricity? Why?  I would vote for no electricity for a week, my pregnant wife would vote for no running water I have a feeling though.  I have lived on water rationing before and hate it.
  • 1. Good! I packed all day Sat. H spent about $50 on groceries and $20 on beer. On Sunday I picked up a dive class and a child care shift for some extra money :)

    2. We've been saving and staying on budget but we're keeping it all in our checking account as buffer for when we hand over our DP check Friday.

    3. It depends-running water if I had friends nearby whose shower I could use. If not, electricity.
  • 1. How MM was your weekend?
I was MIA for a few weeks after moving, but it has not been great, in fact since we moved into the new house I need to reign in my spending. Damn houses are expensive!
    2. Any progress towards your goals this past week?
I guess with all the improvements I'm making to the house is a potential increase in equity, but that's all I've got.
    3. What would you rather live without for a week- running water or electricity? Why?
Electricity, without water, it can turn into a health hazard.

  • 1) Eh..we bought ~$100 in groceries, $25 in booze, and $80 on some sliding closet doors. Not bad.

    2) Paid of H's smallest school loan! Now we start chipping away at the two gigantic ones.

    3) Electricity, definitely. I need to be able to shower...as does H. He gets stinky real fast ;)
