Losing Weight, back to College?

Hey all! First time on The Nest, loved The Knot! It's been just over a year since DH and I have been married (YAY!), went back to college last fall, and have started to try and plan my weight loss journey (72 lbs).  There's a gym on Campus, but I can't seem to work up the nerve to actually go in there.  I'm the biggest girl in there, & have no idea where to start anyway... DH keeps telling me there's nothing to worry about, they're all in there for the same reason, but I know they're all athletes in there just to get their workouts in before practice. On top of that, dealing with Campus food... there's a salad bar, & honestly sometimes I do try to eat that, but mostly order a grilled chicken wrap with feta cheese and leaf lettuce with a side of steamed broccoli & water.
Anyone have a similar situation or ideas to spice up the weight loss journey for a back to college wife?? DH isn't really home much to cook for, (shout out to EMS workers!) but when he's home, he loves all the comfort foods that are "bad" for you & I end up eating along with him.

Thanks in advance!!

Re: Losing Weight, back to College?

  • Find some kind of activity you like to do. Go for walks, swimming, join an intramural team for something fun (frisbee golf, water polo, volleyball, heck a lot of colleges have quidditch teams now). Honestly, if you think you would be able to stick to the routine of going to the gym, go. Bring an ipod or your phone with music on it, and zone yourself out. Just focus on yourself.

As for the food- don't deny yourself small treats once in a while. If you have to eat as part of a meal plan, try to pick the healthiest things. Otherwise bring your lunch so you don't have to buy something. celery and carrots with hummus, fruits, cottage cheese, greek yogurt, string cheese, almonds, your own homemade wraps or sandwiches, mini rice cake chips, etc can all be good things to bring. Check Pinterest for easy different lunch ideas that aren't just a sandwich. I find bringing a lot of smaller snacks to eat through the day helps.

    always carry  a waterbottle.

    good luck

  • oh and as for eating what DH eats, I;m in the same boat. Make a salad to go with it, or cook up a side of veggies and have a smaller portion of the less healthy option your hubby eats.
