Anyone have it or thinking about it?
I have bad eyes, glasses since like kindergarten and have been wearing contacts for 22 years! My dad had PRK done over 10 years ago and loved the results (although not the recovery). He has been trying to convince me for years.
But the whole idea makes me nervous and worried. What if they screw up! Plus it isn't cheap.
What is making me really consider though is that my contacts are being discontinued in 6 or so months. I've tried other contacts in the past and don't love them. I have a steep base curve (8.3) and there are hardly any other contacts with 8.3. So other ones don't feel comfortable on my eyes. I also have had huge issues with deposits the last several years that has really gotten me down about wearing contacts.
I'm thinking of stocking up on my contacts to get me through a couple years and in the meantime seriously consider LASIK, see if I'm a candidate and start saving up. IDK I'm still just really nervous about it and freaked out (I will definitely need Valium!!). But I am so tired of my bad vision, sick of uncomfortable contacts and now the best ones I've found will no longer be available.
Oh and I live in an area with a really great surgeon. I already know I would go to him if I do it.
Anyone else feel conflicted too? Anyone have it done want to share your experience?

Re: LASIK?
I did it 10 years ago. It's the best thing I ever spent money on. My vision was -800 in each eye prior to the procedure. It was amazing to wake up the next morning and be able to see without glasses. it took a few days to get to 20/20 vision, but by the next morning I could see well enough to function.
I had a slight cornea scratch that took about a week to heal, and it was a little itchy, but otherwise I didnt' have any problems or complications. I'd do it again if I needed a touch up.

I do have a friend that had it done and has had problems- however she had astigmatism and very large pupils and they did not recommend she have the surgery and she had it anyway . So she wasn't a good candidate but ignored their advice. If they say you are a good candidate then go for it.

I did take the Dr. prescribed Valium the day of and all was good with my nerves and the procedure was short.
If you save up I recommend then moving the money into a flexible spending account to get the tax benefit.
The only side effect that I might have is when driving down the highway it takes me like a second longer to focus on the signs coming up so I can't read them as fast as some other people read them. I still see them just fine in the timing that is reasonable to read a sign. I'm not sure if this is actually caused by the surgery though, the Dr. offered it up as a potential side effect but it might be just getting older or something.
Thanks!!
