Jamie King article

Have any of you read this yet?

http://www.people.com/article/jaime-king-five-miscarriages-infertility-struggle

For starters, I applaud her for coming forward and opening up about her struggles in such a public way in an effort to help other women and all that blah blah stuff. But...and this may be the Provera talking because I am seriously bitchy this week...did she have to mention how many treatments she went through? Reading that she was able to afford 26 IUI's and 5 rounds of IVF when a lot of the women she is supposedly reaching out to can't afford one treatment seems like a slap in the face. Like I said, I'm on Provera this week so maybe if I had read it last week that wouldn't have stood out to me.

Me: PCOS and Hypothyroidism.

Re: Jamie King article

  • I hadn't seen it. Thanks for sharing. I am appalled that any doc would allow someone to have that many IUIs. It doesn't really make sense as your chances don't go up with IUI. That sounds irresponsible. I don't think she needs to (or even should) share if the IVFs were all fresh cycles, but I am curious about that.

I think celebrities coming out of the IF closet is a great step and takes tremendous courage. However, so few come out during the struggle, and I felt (and still do even though we are on a different journey) most comforted by women who are in the trenches and get it. I wish more celebs would come out during the process. It would make it a bit more genuine and not all "keep trying because this can happen to you, too!" Let's be honest: not every couple, despite unlimited resources, will conceive and carry a child to term. I think that the more celebs who put a face to THAT loss is good for the cause.

  • I read that and thought it was a great article. I have no problem with her sharing the details though. There could be a variety of reasons for so many IUIs. Who knows, maybe she did 6 Clomid and 6 femara with back to back IUIs? That'd put her at 24 right there. Regardless, I like that she shared bc it just bring more attention to IF. :) plus, if she hadn't shared the details, I probably would've been all "oh yeah, she probably did one Clomid cycle and got KU, lucky stiff". It makes it even more "real" and let's people out there know that women, even some celebs, struggle. That's jmo though :)

I'm glad she shared those details.  Too many people think you can walk into a fertility clinic and walk out PG.

I think any attention brought to IF is a good thing. I feel like it's so 'hush hush' and it shouldn't be. So many people are clueless as to what IF is and how the treatments work; stories like this may help more people understand just a little bit better.
