  • I squeed.

Clare is all like, "Well, maybe I want you to throw me over your shoulder just a little..."

  • Me too, and I love how SH is using Jamie's horse tending background and having Jamie 'gentle' her in the scene.

  • I have no idea how I feel about this scene because this is not how I remember this scene playing out.

  • I know they have a change things sometimes, but I don't remember him being so aggressive in this scene.  I thought he was laughing about it more than threatening.  Knowing that she had no chance at getting away.

Exactly!  He was amused!  He definitely wasn't brandishing a sword at her!

He isn't brandishing the sword at her IMO, he happens to have a sword in his hand when he is gentling her. It's a technique you use with a skittish horse.
You use your hands to distract the horse from whatever is upsetting it and get it to focus on you by raising your hands in their direction herding them back where you want them.
The movement gets their attention and keeps them focused on you not on running. It's not meant to be aggressive it's just an easy non-physical way to get back control of the horse.

Doesn't matter because it's still not the way the scene was described.

  • So, it's definitely not the way the scene was described. The horse is not the issue here. I went back and read it yesterday after I talked about it with Jen and Lauren.

That being said, I'm not sure I really care.

In my head this is not Outlander. Outlander still exists in its pristine, perfect form. This is a show that looks a lot like Outlander. I'm not going to spend very much time dissecting what's different because I'm sure a LOT more than this is going to be different. As long as they get most of it right, I'll be okay and I think I'll enjoy it.

I agree with this 100%! I think as long as it's fairly close, I'll still like it. I love Outlander, but TBH, I read it a long time ago, so I won't remember much of the exact details anyway. I'm trying to give it a chance. Also, Jamie and his accent is still hotness!

You are going to be so, so sick of me by the time this is all over.  And don't think for a second I'll leave you out of my dissection and obsessing over every difference just because you have a better attitude than I do.  ::scowls::

  • Also, my biggest issue was not even so much Jamie with the aggressiveness and the sword, but Claire being totally freaked out.  She was really pretty calm in that scene, mostly concerned about his arm, then decides to see if being stubborn will do any good, then kind of shrugs it off when it doesn't.  The fact that Claire looks completely wild and terrified in that scene bothers me the most.
