Question for NYC &/or Hudson River Valley ladies

I wrote a story about a couple driving from NYC to a small town b&b I made up in the Hudson River Valley.  I want to include the name of the major highway/road they would be on for most of the trip until they get off into the more back road-ish type areas.  Looking at a map, it seems like there are a few different options.  What would you suggest that would sound the most realistic?  Keep in mind I want them to get really lost in the woods once they get off the highway.

Thanks for your help!!!

Re: Question for NYC &/or Hudson River Valley ladies

  • I would use the Saw Mill Parkway or the Taconic State Parkway.  The Taconic takes you closer to Albany and more rural areas than the Saw Mill.  The Saw Mill takes you to the Connecticut border.
  • I vote for the Taconic State Parkway. It goes from Westchester to Albany area. It's a 4 lane divided highway that can get scary at nighttime. There are lots of little roads coming off of it. Plus I don't think that there are any rest stops on it anymore. Check out the Wikipedia page about it. It even has a list of exits for you.

  • @minionlover, I think there's 1 rest stop, but it's pretty far north.  For a while, the Taconic is a windy 2 lane highway too.

I won't even drive on the Taconic in the daytime let alone night lol.
  • Perfect!!  Thanks, ladies!! :)  You guys actually inspired the locale of the story.  The book will have ten of them, and I'm trying to hit different spots in the U.S.

  • Yay!!  Thanks guys for your help and support.  And FYI, when I'm done, if anyone wants I will just share the pdf with them.  I don't want you all to feel like you have to buy it!  I'll gladly share it for free.
