I just got a Kindle for an early birthday present! Hooray! I don't think I've read a book in several years so my goal is to start reading for pleasure again.

I am looking for suggestions. What are some of your favorite books? What are you currently reading? What have you read lately? What's next?

I just started "Sisterhood Everlasting" which is the last book of the Traveling Pants series that I read back in middle school/high school. It continues the story with the girls about to turn 30 years old.

Re: Book Recommendations

  • Ooo...I forgot about that book!  I need to read it...I read the Traveling Pants series as well.

As for books...I hardly read.  But I'm totally into the Romance/love stories.  Not so much the "hot & heavy" stuff lol, but I read quite a few of the Harlequin series.  Right now, I'm reading "Home to Stay", which is An Anchor Island novel.  I want to read the other Anchor Island Novel books after this one.

  • I love my Kindle! Since I started grad school again, I haven't been reading quite as much as I'd like, but I really want to get back into it again.
I just joined bookbub.com, where they send you emails with all kinds of ebook deals (free or crazy discounted) based on the genres you tell them you like. I'm loading up my Kindle with books to read... now I just need to sit down and read them!

  • I tend to read Romcoms, and I particularly love anything by Sophie Kinsella. She wrote the Shopiholic series, which I adore, and her other books are great, too. They're always an easy, funny read.

  • I like weird stuff, so these might not be the greatest recs, but I'll try. I just read "The Leftovers," which is what the new HBO show is based off of. 2 percent of the world's population disappears and people left are coping. Very good. I also like basically any historical fiction, so any Philippa Gregory is good for me. She wrote "The Other Boelyn Girl", but so much of her other series are great as well. I also liked JK Rowling's two new books she wrote under the pen name Robert Galbraith. IF you like creepy and borderline sci-fi, "Devil in the White City" is cool.

  • For chick lit, I second Sophia Kinsella. Also, Marian Keyes, Jane Green (considered a founder of chick lit along with Helen Fielding, who wrote the Bridget Jones series), and Emily Griffin.

I loved the Hunger Games series and I'm currently reading the Divergent series by Veronica Roth. If it's been awhile since you read for pleasure, the Harry Potter books are a must. Even if you saw the movies, the books have so much more to them.

For some drama, Jodi Picoult books are always great.

I was going to suggest Jane Green!!!  I got annoyed by Sophia Kinsella after about the 3rd Shopaholic book lol, but I adore Jane Green.  Also Jennifer Weiner who wrote In Her Shoes (among other wonderful books).
