Father-in-law problems....

My husband and his dad are SUPER close which I'm fine with because I'm close with my family as well it's just that I'm pretty sure he spends more time with his dad than with me and if I try to confide in him for something he'll tell his dad too whether it's his dad's business or not. I get super frustrated and I don't know what to do anymore!! Please HELP!

Re: Father-in-law problems....

  • You need to talk to your husband about this that while you appreciate the wonderful relationship & bond he and his father share, there are certain things you would prefer to keep private between you two and give him some examples. Also talk to him about time they spend together. Maybe you can designate a certain day as dad/son time. Then you know on say friday nights he is going to be hanging out with his dad, perfect time for you to make plans to hang out with your girlfriends or do things you enjoy doing that maybe your husband doesn't.

Being close to your dad? Great.

Telling something that is not his dad's concern is not great.

You have an H problem, not a FIL problem. I strongly suggest you tell your H where this is at and nip this in the bud now.

Tell him flat out he's to not repeat tales out of school to his father. What he is doing is just wrong.
  • My H and I have talked about it so it hasn't happened since and he's trying to spend more time with me.
I failed to mention in the first post that his dad is staying with us for the time being because of a hard time (which is a long story) on his part and is trying to save up a little extra cash so he can finish his home (it's not liveable at the moment).
My FIL heart is in the right place but he wants to be involved with everything like for example if my H and I are having a convo in the living room his dad likes to butt in as well. He has never lived alone before and isn't use to his son being an adult who can make his own decisions because it will always be his little boy. So he is always trying to help but sometimes his help gets in the way or makes us disagree.
I try to be polite and bite my tongue so I can think before I speak (my FIL is also sensitive) so with the living arrangements at the moment I def. don't want to cause any tension or hurt feelings.
