Help me out with food (obv NGPR)

We are having a small housewarming party tomorrow. We are expecting about 10-15 people.

I want to make a sort of light dinner dish that people can serve themselves if they get hungry. Something that can go in the slow cooker is a plus so I can keep it warm and people can eat whenever they want. Normally I would make soup or chili but it's too hot for that.

Any suggestions? Also, any recommendations for yummy but semi-inexpensive beer?

TIA!

Re: Help me out with food (obv NGPR)

  • Tacos or nachos.  Keep the meat and/or cheese warm in the crockpot and put all the fixings out (most veggies can sit out for a while without being chilled).  Then they can serve themselves whenever.  You can put the sour cream and shredded cheese in a dip crock if you have one or a 9x13 pan with ice in it and the bowls of those cooled items sitting in it.

  • Mmmm, pulled pork is always good!

I'm not sure how inexpensive it is compared with other beers, but DH likes Shock Top for summertime, or Leinenkugel if you've got it around you.

  • I like the taco idea.  I've also seen hot dogs done in the crock pot and then have different fixings for people to use.  You could make a simple pasta salad and buy some chips to go with it, sort of an indoor cookout theme.

  • I may hijack the taco idea for our upcoming house warming party. I have one of the three insert crockpots and could maybe do beef in one, chicken in another and cheese in the last. Sorry for hijacking ideas from your post @Flamingo86‌
  • @simsk3887 no worries! Hijack away. Hope you are enjoying your new house!

  • I'm drooling at the thought of Leinenkugel and pulled pork. Have an awesome housewarming party, @Flamingo86! It sounds like it's going to be fun!
