Gtky college class or degree

Ok, so this board has been dead lately.
If you could go to college/trade school/whatever- what would you go for? (Cost is no object, your great uncle you didn't know existed just died and left you all his $ with the instructions to further your education). Where would you go?

If you could go on a 10k shopping spree where would you go? What is the first thing you buy?

What is your favorite mm friendly dinner?

College I would go to Oxford and do a medieval history degree. I don't even know if they offer that, but I love that part of history.

Shopping spree would be to the rooms to go outlet. For that much $ I could furnish my whole new house probably, if I use some of the current stuff we have.

Meal is spaghetti and meatballs. It probably costs $4. (2 for meatballs, .50 for noodles, $1 for sauce, and .50 for a couple slices if homemade garlic bread).

  • Fun!

    1) I would go to Duke to get my PhD in Northern Renaissance art & printmaking.  I know I'm a nerd, but my favorite undergraduate major was art history, and my favorite area was Northern Renaissance (Dutch, Flemish, Netherlandish, German... no Italian).  One of the big names in that field is at Duke, and I would love to study under him.

    2) My shopping spree would probably be at Williams Sonoma or Sur la Table.  H and I really love nice cooking stuff.  We watch cooking shows pretty much every day (it's the only thing we can agree on), and nice equipment makes us feel like pros!

    3) My budget meal is healthy burritos.  Probably $7 for 4-6 servings.  $3 for the tortillas, $1 for canned chicken, $0.50 for a can of black beans, $0.50 for a can of rotel,  Then $1 for grated cheese & fresh limes and $1 for cilantro.  Spices we just keep around and use so slowly I don't really count them.

  • Happy weekend!  Our has been unusually boring, which has been nice!!

    I.  I love my job and have no intentions of changing careers, and even more than I love my job, I value my free time.  So, unless a once a week class at a local culinary arts school counted or I could give it to endow a scholarship to benefit others, I would decline the money.

    2.  Easy:  Nordstrom.  And as boring as it sounds, I'd stock up on new suits, and add more variety to my basic staples.

    3.  We're also pasta people, but I like to use Italian sausage and we skip the garlic bread.  In the winter, I also make a mean Italian sausage and potato soup.

  • If you could go to college/trade school/whatever- what would you go for? (Cost is no object, your great uncle you didn't know existed just died and left you all his $ with the instructions to further your education). Where would you go?  I would do a Master's degree in Swiss/ German history back to the Roman/ pre-Roman era at a University in either Switzerland or Germany.

If you could go on a 10k shopping spree where would you go? What is the first thing you buy?  I would go to a high end cooking store that has good cookware, my wife would kill me, but I would get more kitchen knives and other cookware.  Then again, I love knives.

What is your favorite mm friendly dinner? What ever is in our freezer/ cabinets that we can turn into a meal.  The cheapest would be pasta with a red meat sauce and some garlic bread.  I can usually turn this into at least 3 lunches also.
  • Happy Sunday Night!

    1. I wouldn't go back to school. I would offer it to my H to get his MBA @ Michigan, but I don't think he would take it. He has done just fine without it and sometimes a higher degree can work against you in his business.  I guess, I would fund schooling for any future children.

    2. We have a mall here called Somerset Collection. It's one of the best! It wouldn't take me long to drop $10K there. All I would have to do is buy a pair of diamond earrings. I have been eyeing this one Fendi bag, maybe that, and a new pair of Ray Bans.

    3. Not WW friendly but MM friendly, I still like Kraft Mac & Cheese and Chicken Raman Noodle every once in a while.
  • 1. I'd get an MBA. Brandeis offers a nonprofit MBA and I'd probably go there since I do enjoy working in the nonprofit sector. That said, I love what I do. Another major that would tempt me is Spanish. I really wish I'd learned it when I had the chance.

    2. Furniture! First purchase would be a dining room set, second would be a patio set. With any leftover I'd get to a carpet store and replace the hideous carpet in my office and basement. That counts as shopping, right?

    3. Frozen ravioli with sauce
  • If you could go to college/trade school/whatever- what would you go for? (Cost is no object, your great uncle you didn't know existed just died and left you all his $ with the instructions to further your education). Where would you go? I would do exactly what I am doing now. I don't feel like college has to be crazy expensive. There is a state university 20 minutes away. I would study business just like I am now but I would probably double major in Early Childhood Education if I had the money.

If you could go on a 10k shopping spree where would you go? What is the first thing you buy? A furntiure store. A whole new bedroom set. I think the one we have now is literally older than I am. It is holding up wonderfully it just looks rough.

What is your favorite mm friendly dinner? We do sweet & sour keilbassa and rice a lot because all we have to buy for it is the meat. We have all of the other ingredients to make at least 3 more times.

  • I really have no desire to go back to school, so I would probably give it H to further his public service career.

If I got 10K, I would buy a house. There's really nothing else that we want/need at this point.

My MM friendly dinner is homemade pizza. All the ingredients cost about $5

  • 1. I'm not sure where I would go, but if money were no object I'd go to medical school in a heartbeat.

    2. If I had $10K and I had to spend it, I would first use half of it to book a vacation (Italy is next on our list of places we want to go). and I'd use the other half to furnish the space we're planning to renovate in our basement.

    3. my current favorite is a recipe for muscles, H and I are big seafood fans, but it's often out of our budget. It probably costs $12 to make enough for 4 people. search for "muscles with bacon beer and fennel" on cooking light...yum!

  • If you could go to college/trade school/whatever- what would you go for? Med school to become a Reproductive Endocrinologist or Midwife.

If you could go on a 10k shopping spree where would you go? What is the first thing you buy? A new dining room table that seats 12, has cherry wood, and the clawfoot details on the legs to match the era of our home.

What is your favorite mm friendly dinner?  Tacos. I usually end up not eating them on a tortilla and have them on a lettuce leaf or just make loaded nachos.

I would go back to school for a PhD in Biostatistics- our local university has a great program that partners with our local cancer hospital.
If you could go on a 10k shopping spree where would you go? What is the first thing you buy?
10K shopping spree would probably be spent at a place where I could get everything for our upstairs bathroom- new sink, flooring, tile, tub, toilet, etc. And hopefully have enough to have it completed by someone as well.
What is your favorite mm friendly dinner?
Homemade pizza- make the dough and sauce- just need cheese, veggies.. the girls love it.

  • 1. I would probably get my masters in linguistics. My dream job would be to travel the world and record dying languages or ones that are spoken in small villages, but I don't think I could handle traveling and being away from my SO and our pets all the time! 2. I just can't imagine spending 10k all in one place! I would definitely by something Burberry. I don't own any designer items, but I am obsessed with Burberry bags and raincoats. 3. My favorite MM meal is probably stir fry. We just chop up some fresh peppers and onions, dice chicken into bite sized pieces and cook it on the skillet with teriyaki sauce. We eat it with rice, and it usually ends up costing us around $5 for the whole meal.
  • 1.  I've always had an interest in sports and nutrition so it would be something having to do with that.

    2.  We are building a new house so I'd get new furniture for the house

    3.  Hmm.  All I can think of is hamburger stroganoff which I'm making tonight.  It's not totally MM (although I only had to buy a pound of ground beef for it) but it's a crockpot meal so it's really easy to make.

My principals license probably. That is so boring.

Home depot/Lowes for remodeling things in the house.

What is your favorite mm friendly dinner?
Cereal or Mac and cheese made from scratch.
  • If you could go to college/trade school/whatever- what would you go for?
    Either economics or astronomy...probably economics!

If you could go on a 10k shopping spree where would you go? What is the first thing you buy?
    Wayfair.com or Anthropology

What is your favorite mm friendly dinner?
Tortellini Soup - Tortellini cooked in tomato soup and chicken broth with a can of mushrooms and some spinach.  So easy and yummy!
  • 1. I would go back to school for my Bachelor's in Architecture.

    2. I would start off with a new closet of clothes (I haven't bought much in the last few years and would love a whole new wardrobe). I would also put the rest towards a house since I have everything I need in my apartment.

    3. If I don't feel like cooking much, I will make homemade pancakes for dinner with scrambled eggs. Actual cooking, I would make chicken fried rice.

  • 1) Probably language classes. I work in immigration and would love to be more fluent in Spanish and French.

    2) Downpayment, or flights to visit H because he's living in another state for a year.

    3) Not very healthy but I love a tuna-noodle casserole. $11 and it makes easily 8-10 meals.
