Monday Accountability

1. How MM was your weekend?

2. Any progress towards goals?

3. Tell us anything interesting about yourself

Re: Monday Accountability

  • 1. $5 at CVS and that's it

    2. None to report

    3. I grew up going to amusement parks and going on air planes all the time, and now I am just terrified of them!

  • We spent $40 at harbor freight, $40 on groceries and $8 eating out. A pretty good weekend for us.
No closer to our goals although I did our spreadsheet to see what we had really saved last month by trying to cut almost everything and it was close to 2k so I felt really great about that! That will just go towards the house this month, but we can now cash flow all those unexpected things and possibly by a new piece of furniture or something bigger if we need to. We are trying to stay in the same no spending mindset this month to do the same or better.
I walked for graduation from college before graduating from high school. I wish more states did this but in MN I went to college my last 2 years of high school and graduated with my AA degree. And the state paid the community college tuition. Talk about the student loans that would save people!!! There were requirements so not everybody could do it but my brother, sister and I all qualified and it was great!

  • 1. $30 at TJMaxx on a graduation gift for a student
$180 at the grocery store, It's been at least 6 months since we did a stock-up trip
$140...apparently H went on a shopping spree at Home Depot...just saw this on the CC this morning. we did have some outlets that needed replacing around the house (those are $20 a pop). fortunately we came in under budget on most things in July so this will probably balance out, and H said he has some stuff to return.
$80 wag.com for cat litter and dog food

    2. an extra $200 put into our account for basement renovations on friday

  • 1. How MM was your weekend? Spent $100 on groceries.  We also bought H a "cash" car and he bought a bunch of parts for it.  So far that was $200 for new brakes, rotors, and stuff for oil changes in the new car and the one he's trying to sell.

    2. Any progress towards goals?  Listed H's car for sale since it won't fit a car seat or stroller in it.  We also bought him a used car in cash that needed a little TLC but wasn't a bad car at all.  So only progress will be when his car sells and we wipe out $7k in car debt. Yay!

    3. Tell us anything interesting about yourself.  I live in a town of 800 people and grew up in a town of 400.  The nearest Starbucks is an hour away.

I love the small town feel, but I know I could never live there. My in-laws live in a tiny town and every time I visit I go stir crazy. I like the idea of knowing everybody, but I could never do it! Dh knows this yet still talks every now and then about retiring there.

  • 1.  Pretty bad.  We went out to eat Saturday night ($60) and Sunday morning ($20, including a new travel mug for H).  This has killed our fun budgets for a while.  We also made a large, budgeted furniture purchase.

    2.  I'll be putting my full mileage reimbursement this month ($211) towards my car. H will make an extra-big payment on his as well.

    3.  I just committed to a 10-week half marathon training program with my best friend.  I'm active and in shape, but not historically a runner, so this will be a great new challenge that is cheaper than Zumba.  Completed my first 3-miler this morning!
  • 1 - Mine was bad but I'm fine with it.  My bff was in town and I only get to see her every 4-5 months. We went out to dinner Friday Night and lunch on Sunday.  I filled my car up with gas on Sunday and we had tickets to see Motley Crue last night for a friends bday.  We went out to eat Sunday night as well.  I'm kinda tired today.  Our weekends usually aren't this busy :)

2 - Booked another gig.  More money in retirement and Efund.  We also put some of our things in MIL's garage sale this weekend and made $150.  That will go in our basement fund.

3 -  I love yoga so much I wish I could do it every day but having the kid puts a cramp in things.

    2. Any progress towards goals? Paid an extra $1,400 toward mortgage this month!

    3. Tell us anything interesting about yourself I've always been interested in finances, but I am even more now and I'm constantly trying to see how to improve my spreadsheet lol.

  • 1. H worked all weekend and I stayed in and watched movies and cleaned the house.
Friday $2 at Jersey Mikes subs.(With coupons)
Filled up both tanks for $105  (Our SUV was on empty)
Sunday spent $12 last night on Pizza.

    2. Keeping expenses down this month! No clothes shopping this month is my goal. I do not need anything.

    3. I speak 3 languages and a little ASL. I learned Spanish via Rosetta stone. My H has 2 Emmy awards.

I'm jealous.  Whenever we drive the hour for Sams Club, the mall, etc, I always have to pick up some Starbucks.  It's a must.

@vikingsfan711  We live in the town H grew up in, and I grew up 2 towns over.  We both went to Chicago for college and never thought we would move back.  Then the crash of 2008 came right after we graduated and our job offers in our hometown were more money than staying in Chicago.  We told ourselves that we would live here for 3 years then move back to "civilization."  Here we are 6 years later and we have no intentions of leaving.  Something about being close to family and in a good/small school district can't compete.

We got the keys, but we're giving them until Thursday to move out.  They are in a closing for their house this afternoon and still need to move.  We're not in a super big rush because we have our apartment until the end of the month.

$40 on date night Friday.  $15 on groceries on Saturday (after coupons and gift cards).  Wahoo!

    2. Any progress towards goals?

Increased savings by $42, but also increased debt by $132.  Ugh!

  • 1. How MM was your weekend?  Paid cash for everything this weekend.  Helps that we had a wedding on Saturday that MW sent the gifts directly to the newlywed's house.  Then on Sunday had an early 80th birthday party for MW's grandfather.

    2. Any progress towards goals?  Got paid on Friday so this week the automatic transfers to savings will happen.  MW's student loans are under $20k now.

    3. Tell us anything interesting about yourself  My son is very much a mini me.  He needs time alone to recharge and being around large crowds even if just extended family can be too much for him.  I just hope that he doesn't end up being bi-polar like I am.

Congrats Hoffse!!! Both on the house and DH completing the bar.
Slurpeelove- that is kind of sad and yet funny to me. Funny because after we got engaged we went to Vegas and my mom was like you should just elope when you are there- it's so much easier!

  • 1. How MM was your weekend?

We started our new budgeting system this weekend and H is completely on board. We went out on Friday night ($25 dining), Breakfast Saturday morning ($30 of next week's dining budget, so we will have pizza for dinner instead of going out), and stockpiled a month's worth of groceries at BJ's $154 total. I'm pretty happy that we are staying right within budget.

    2. Any progress towards goals?

Just sticking to the new budget is our big goal right now, but I was able to pay down some more debt, put $100 towards vacation savings, and $100 towards our payoff savings.

    3. Tell us anything interesting about yourself

Portuguese was my first language since my household only spoke Portuguese (my parents/grandparents moved here from the Azores; I was born here). My kindergarten teacher was also Portuguese, so she really helped me learn English. I can still read and write, but I can't speak it as well as I should.

@VikingsFan711 I have no regrets.  Honestly, the thought of my mother and her boyfriend twerking on the dance floor while DH's religious family watches and judges is enough to make me want to vomit.  The eloping wasn't really planned, but I'm glad to finally be married.  We've been together for 7 years, going on 8.
