Question about The Maze Runner series (NS)

I just read book 1- and I can say I did enjoy it!  I liked the story, most of the characters, etc.  It was a fast read too.

I think (and I could be wrong) I recall people saying books 2 & 3 are not as good.  I am getting so TIRED of getting into series where the books don't live up to the first one.  Anyone read books 2 & 3?  Worth my time or should I just google a synopsis of each to get a gist of what happens?

Re: Question about The Maze Runner series (NS)

  • I think I gave the whole series 3 stars, but I wasn't wow-ed by any of them. It felt a little young for me, and the novelty of book one wears thin by book 2.

  • I listened to all 3 and gave them 4 stars each.  I think I might be in the minority, though??

  • I really liked the Maze Runner, then I was less than impressed with The Scorch Trials.  It was blah, and then I heard NOTHING but bad reviews for the last one and so I never finished the series.

    Sorry :(

  • I know you had told me that Lauren. I just wanted to see if that was the consensus.  I am just getting to tired of reading books that don't live up the hype!

  • Ugh.  I couldn't even get through book 1.
  • I enjoyed all of them.  They are definitely on the younger side though.

I think the general opinion was that if you liked the first book, you liked them all, but if you had any issues with the first book, they went down from there.

  • This series was a lot like the Divergent series to me. It had a lot of potential, but the 2nd and 3rd books just didn't live up to how much I liked the first. I think the premise was really cool, but when the author had to delve into / explain / expand upon the premise, it sort of fell flat. (For both series.)

I read all three of these, and while I liked the last two, I definitely liked the first one the best. I think because the author didn't yet ruin the premise for me. Just like Divergent. :)
  • I am glad I listened to them.   I think that really helped me like the whole series.

  • I really enjoyed the first book, thought the second was just okay, and hated the third.  I think they'll make better movies.

  • I didn't enjoy the first book. I liked the second book a little better and the third book was about the same as the first for me. I felt like it should have been one book. There were so many irrelevant and repetitive things that never really got answers.

  • I read The Maze Runner and gave it 4 stars, then gave the next two books 3 stars, though 3 stars might be pushing it for the last book. I really wasn't wowed with the series.
