Re: E-Readers

    1. First of all, which E-Reader do you have?
I have the original B&N Nook.
    2. Do you like your E-Reader? Pro/Cons
I like it.  Light weight, small enough to carry around, but not so small that it's difficult to carry.  The lack of a backlight is a good and bad thing.  When I'm laying in bed at night, I wish for it.  When I'm on the train or out in the light, it doesn't hurt my eyes.
    3. Are you thinking of upgrading soon?
I'm considering the fact that it's probably time to upgrade.  I'm thinking about a Nook Glowlight because I do like the e-ink.  If I switched to the Kindle, I'd lose my library, but I have the Amazon credit card (rewards) and prime.  Ugh.

    1. First of all, which E-Reader do you have? The newer Kindle Keyboard and an iPad
    2. Do you like your E-Reader? Pro/Cons Yes, very much so.  Con: I'm a huge library user so it's often faster for me to get physical books that ebooks.  It's a small con though.
    3. Are you thinking of upgrading soon? Nope.

  • First of all, which E-Reader do you have?  I have the Kindle Paperwhite, it's almost 2 years old at this point, I think.Do you like your E-Reader? Pro/Cons  I really enjoy my kindle, I use it mostly when I travel or at night before bed, it's easier to lay in bed with the kindle and I can turn the light off.  I also can read after my husband falls asleep without bothering him too much. Are you thinking of upgrading soon?  No I'm happy with this kindle, the built in light was something I really wanted and the rest of things are just perks.  Now the Goodreads update is available on my version.  I won't upgrade until this one breaks.

  • These are questions for people with E-Readers.
    1. First of all, which E-Reader do you have?  I had the original Nook, but am using a Nook Color now.
    2. Do you like your E-Reader? Pro/Cons  I like it. I hate their power cables though. Mine always end up crapping out and I have to get replacements. It happened with both Nooks that I've had.
    3. Are you thinking of upgrading soon?  I am thinking about asking for a Nook tablet for Christmas. I originally wanted a Nook Glowlight, but DH got me the Color last year for Christmas. I love the eInk, but I also really like the versatility of the tablet.

    1. First of all, which E-Reader do you have? Nook Color
    2. Do you like your E-Reader? Pro/Cons? Yes, I love it. I love being able to buy the next book I want to read within 30 seconds. It's incredibly easy to use. Because it's backlit, I read when I'm awake with the baby at 2am - the light doesn't bother her. It has day & night settings, font options, bookmarks and notes. Plus, Nook Color has web access, so I can check Facebook or play an app. I love it.
    3. Are you thinking of upgrading soon? No. I've flirted with the idea of a Kindle just because of the deals you can get on Amazon. Also, I'm losing confidence in B&N's ability to stay in business :(

5000 Comments 500 Love Its Fourth Anniversary First Answer
    1. Kindle, I think its the second generation (non paperwhite, no backlight)
    2. I love it. LOVE IT. I love having hundreds of books at my fingertips. Pros: light weight, easy to carry, cheap books, syncs with app on my phone and potentially with audible (haven't tried). It made reading so easy this first year with Alex, book reading is nearly impossible.
Cons: no library options in Canada. Whomp whomp. Also I use the app on my phone more at night now because of the light.

    3. Not anytime soon. There is nothing wrong with my kindle. If it aint broke don't fix it.
    1. First of all, which E-Reader do you have?  I have a nook glowlight.
    2. Do you like your E-Reader? Pro/Cons I love it.  It's lightweight and I like that I don't have to use a book light with it.
    3. Are you thinking of upgrading soon?  I don't think I would upgrade but I wouldn't mind getting a kindle paperwhite.  I read on my nook and use the kindle app on my phone and it would be nice to be able to read the kindle books on a larger device.

  • 1. Nook HD that's just over a year old. And I recently won a Kindle Fire.

    2. I like both of them. I like being able to go online aside from just reading. I actually had the Kindle app on my Nook so that increased what I could read. And I downloaded Overdrive to both so I can read my library books too. I'd say the one con is that the brightness doesn't auto adjust (like my iPhone) when I go from shade to light. And reading in bright sun can just be hard in general on both.

    3. Not upgrading any time soon.
    1. First of all, which E-Reader do you have? I have a Fire, a Kindle Paperwhite, and a Kindle2 Keyboard, all with 3G
    2. Do you like your E-Reader? Pro/Cons? I love them all. But for different reasons. I love the fire for what it can do, and the screen resolution, etc, but I do not like reading on it. I love the paperwhite for reading, it is small, easy to hold, and the backlight feature is wonderful.
    3. Are you thinking of upgrading soon? I just got the paperwhite a couple of weeks ago, and used it on my trip to Seattle. So nice having it on the plane ride.

    1. First of all, which E-Reader do you have? I have a first gen Nook and a Sony
    2. Do you like your E-Reader? Pro/Cons I love my Sony.  It's easy to get books from NetGalley, Overdrive, and Kobo on it and it has e-ink which is the only way I can read on a screen.  My Nook is old and clunky and I can't wirelessly put books on it from the library or NetGalley.
    3. Are you thinking of upgrading soon? Not until my Sony dies.

  • 1) Kindle Paperwhite

    2) I ADORE it! It is perfect for reading in all situations (bright sunlight to bedtime). Also I tend to curl up in weird positions when I read and not having to flip the side of the book around is a huge plus. Only con is like someone else mentioned normally I have to wait longer for an ebook from the library than if I wanted a physical book so that would be a con no matter the reader.

    3) Nope, I just got my paperwhite about 2 months ago and I'm hoping it lasts a VERY long time!
  • I have a Kindle Touch 3G that Amazon sent to replace my Kindle Keyboard when it died. I also have a Kindle Fire HD.

I loooooooooooove them. LOVE. The Touch goes with me everywhere.

I won't upgrade anytime in the near future because these fit my needs just fine but after owning a Kindle for the last 3 years and building my library, I'm Kindle for lyfe so when either or both of them die, they're getting replaced with new Kindles.

  • I have the Nook Color

I like it but find it can be difficult to read outside after awhile.

I would like to get a Nook Glowlight. I got my NookColor when they first came out and thought I would use the "tablet" part of it more than I do. Since I now have an iPhone, I don't use the other features on it at all. I also chose it because when I got it, Kindle books weren't available through the library. I would like a Kindle but don't want to lose all my books, so when I replace it, it'll be with a Nook Glowlight.

First of all, which E-Reader do you have?
Kindle Keyboard. 3rd gen I think.

Do you like your E-Reader? Pro/Cons
I was opposed at first (it was a gift) but I love it now! I love being able to travel/vacay with several books without worrying about packing them all. I like being able to read big/longer books and not have to carry them around with me. I can carry multiple books in a series on it so if I finish a book in public I already have the next book. Also I can read in peace without people seeing what I'm reading, for example I used to get irritated about all the "You're reading that book AGAIN!?" comments lol. It's also really easy to read on; you don't have to contort into weird positions and your arms don't get as tired. Also, I like that if my Kindle dies in public or I forget it on accident I can read from the app on my phone!
The only downside is you can't buy used e-books the way you can paper books, and e-books can get expensive. You can always use a library or lend with friends though.

Are you thinking of upgrading soon?
I would love the new Kindle Paperwhite but it's not in the finances right now.

Tell me about the Paperwhite vs. Kindle Keyboard. I want to make the switch when we have spare money, but I want to make sure it's worth it. My only concern is that reading at night will hurt my eyes, even with the special light.

The paperwhite is amazing. I was worried about the light as well but it is very adjustable. Meaning that when you are in "low light situations" ie at night, you can have the light turned down super low. I definitely feel a difference on my eyes when I'm reading on the kindle vs my computer. Also because of the way the screen is made glare isn't an issue like it is with tablets, computers etc....

    It's totally worth it :)

These are questions for people with E-Readers.
    1. First of all, which E-Reader do you have? Basic Kindle
    2. Do you like your E-Reader? Pro/Cons Love it, great for reading in the backyard while watching DD play and in other sunny situations. Kind of wish I'd asked for the paperwhite though.
    3. Are you thinking of upgrading soon? No, just got it for Christmas and it works well, for night reading I just sync and then read on my iPad.

  • I have the Nook Simple Touch with Glowlight. I love it. I'm not really thinking of upgrading, but I have been thinking of getting a Kindle, too. Or maybe a tablet. I have the Kindle app on my iPhone and have been reading from it a lot, but it's getting annoying to read on such a small screen.

@sonore32 Thanks for the input. I would love to be able to read at night without a lamp on, but also without hurting my eyes.

  • I had debated about getting the paperwhite, since I already had the Kindle 2 keyboard. I got a special Amazon deal where I could purchase a new Kindle and pay for it over 4 or 5 months, no interest, so I decided to just go for it. I do think the paperwhite is worth it over the Keyboard.

The keyboard version is perfectly fine. However, the paperwhite has the built in backlight which is FAB. It's smaller, and I like the touch controls over the buttons.
