Reading Lottery: Nothing to Envy - Ordinary Lives in North Korea
I finally finished my reading lottery book! For me, this was not a book that I could fly through. It was quite sad and difficult to read. Many people in North Korea were starving to death for years and it just wasn't the kind of book I felt like turning to every night. I don't read much nonfiction, so it was good for me to be challenged by reading this. It brought me back to my college days when I majored in International Studies. I have always been fascinated by North Korea - a modern day dystopia - and I was interested to read this book and learn about the real people of that country. It was an incredibly insightful book into the lives of ordinary people stuck in a crumbling regime that refuses to admit it's failing. I was struck by how pervasive the propaganda campaign was/is in North Korea. So, thank you for recommending this book. I feel much more educated about the history and the very recent crisis in North Korea.
