You've been to the beaches at Turks and Caicos, right? You guys loved it there? Trying to work on if family vacation and had originally been looking at BVI but was looking a little at Turks and Caicos. We would probably rent a villa as opposed to a resort. Was wondering if you guys ever left the resort and had any recommendations on area? I know nothing about there!

  • Yes, we were there 2 years ago and are going back next summer!  We loved Turks and Caicos.  We didn't get to explore too much, but Grace Bay beach is always voted one of the top beaches in the world, so I'd definitely stick to that area.   The airline put us up in a Comfort Suites or something and it was absolutely gross.   (But I think you could stay there for $100 a night or something, so just don't go cheap!)

The director of our program is there now, and they're going to give me a list of good restaurants for when we go next summer.  So I can share it with you when I get it, if you decide to go there.
  • I've been to T&C and we did a little bit of venturing outside of the resort where we stayed. There is little shopping center in town that's really cute. Overall the feeling I got was that it's very safe. I will say there were very poor looking area's of the island where many of the locals lived... And then the complete other end of the spectrum with beautiful beach houses and fancy resorts.
  • Be sure to avoid hurricane season (mainly sept - dec/jan). They're incredibly hurricane prone and the island practically shuts down those months.

  • We went for our honeymoon and stayed at royal West Indies. We did rent a car for a day to explore and always felt very safe! There was a lot of construction going on at time (Feb 2007) so I'm sure it has changed quite a bit in that sense. Hope to go back for an anniversary one day! :)
  • Thanks everyone! Still trying to decide stuff! We would be looking at before hurricane season or the beginning. Good to know they are hurricane prone!
