bday present suggestions for Brian

Brian's birthday is next month; my original idea that I thought of way back in the winter was that I was going to take him to that new Go Ape zip-lining thing but now he has a torn rotator cuff and is getting surgery shortly after his birthday

so that's a no go for this year, I will have to save it for next year when he's (hopefully) healed and healthy.

Now I'm at a loss! I'm open to ideas about actual gifts (as in objects) or something that's more of an experience. If you've done something super fun lately, or found an amazing gift for your hubby, let me know!

I had 2 successful event type gifts. My dad LOVED the food tour of Lawrenceville we gave him last year. It was through Burgh Bits and Bites. They have a lot of different neighborhoods.

For Tim's birthday I did a progressive dinner date I suppose. We started at a craft beer place for apps and drinks, then we went to Tamari for dinner, and finished up at the Cheesecake Factory for dessert. We really enjoyed ourselves and he liked being surprised about each destination.

I am taking Nathan tubing in Johnstown. Well, if summer ever returns.

I already bought him a bike in April that was his birthday, anniversary, Christmas present for the next two years. :P

great minds think alike---that was his father's day gift

it was a different (much less expensive) brand, Sony I think....but he was so excited, he had been looking at the Go Pro around christmas, but we don't exchange christmas gifts so I bought it on sale then stashed it until Father's Day.

oooh, love this idea!! I am going to check out the food tour you mention. I was also thinking maybe just getting my mom to babysit and heading to a winery or something, sans kids. we are a bit limited since his arm will be in a sling from late august-late september, but that doesn't impede the ability to eat & drink!!

Is he into fishing or anything? You could do a fishing trip to Erie or something. Even with his limited mobility he should be able to fish, right?

Does he like beer? You could go make a batch together at Copper Kettle. I took DH to Copper Kettle last year. It requires 2 trips: 1 to brew and 1 to bottle. We got the small batch and it was a lot of beer.

I made a "choose your own adventure" chart for B last year for his birthday. (Although he had no idea what I was talking about. Does anyone else remember the "Choose your own" book series?!?!) All destinations ultimately lead to where I wanted to be - Lake Erie, Waldemeer Park, etc. - because we had the tot with us. It was really fun. They were things like choose Education (Light House, museum) or Adventure (Waldemeer, Beach). Then he had to choose to climb hills (roller coaster) or climb stairs (water slides), stuff like that.

I could send a picture if you'd like, but I don't think some of the things are rotator-cuff friendly. If you come up with some restaurants/destinations, etc. that he can do, I'm sure the creative ladies on here would be able to blow my choices out of the water! You could do a food/winery themed one!

Narcissi Winery in Gibsonia is really neat and the wines are fairly good -not your typical local wines which I always think tastes awful!

I think we are going with this!! I decided I wanted to do something this weekend (which is his actual birthday) rather than waiting, since I know he's dreading the surgery next week. at least this will give him something fun before. His mom is coming to stay with us next week and arrives on Sunday, so she said she would babysit for us that afternoon and into evening so i'm going to surprise him that day by just telling him to get ready and drive to the winery without telling him where exactly we are going.

And, after a fabulous meal and wine, we will head to home depot and lowes to pick out new bathroom fixtures, hahahahaha! we do it up big in our house! but hey, gotta take advantage of that grandma babysitting service!
