I just wrote out almost the entire birth story, with some funny details. I accidentally hit the back button, don't ask how, and it all got deleted. Now for the abridged version.
I was having signs all day last Thursday that I was in labor, hot flashes and mild contractions, but I didn't realize it.
Thursday evening a few friends were texting me asking about my progress. One friend described contractions and I realized I had been having some. I told H, then went to the bathroom. I got a cramp and lifted my belly. I felt a pop and a leak. I told H I thought my water broke, but he thought I was joking. He came in, we called my mom and the doctor. My mom came down and looked and confirmed. We got our things together, I posted to you all, then we went off to the hospital.
The hospital was packed and I had to wait to get into a room since there were none clean. After about 20-25 minutes, they came and got me, swabbed me and confirmed my water broke. They did a check and I was 2 cm dilated, I thought I was an 8 or 9. I was disappointed because I thought I could go med free. They strapped me to a bed and would not let me move. They gave me an IV pain killer and moved us from triage to a labor room. I was able to doze but still felt the contractions. H and my mom said I was kind of delirious and was saying things like I needed to go to Syracuse.
Around 2 or 3 my doctor came and checked me. I was at 7 and he recommended getting a epidural. This was my biggest fear, I did not want something injected in my back. I did it because I don't think I would have been able to go through labor otherwise. They checked me again around 6 and I was still at a 7, labor stalled. My contractions were getting irregular also, so they gave me some pitossin. Epidurals work amazing, I had back to back contractions with no discomfort.
At 7 the shift changed and the terrible nurse went home. The new nurse, who helped with delivery, was amazing. I wish I would have had her all night. Around 9 the doctor came and he thought I was complete, so he had me push. I was between 9 and 10 and not enough to get O out. We waiting another half an hour, then I was ready.
I pushed to get her to descend, but she wasn't descending. She would come down and as soon as the contraction and pushing stopped, she'd go back up. The doctor said I needed a vacuum assist. I pushed a couple of times and he was able to get the vacuum on her, then another 2 or 3 pushes and her debut was made.
H held me leg for a lot of the pushing, until it was time for the good stuff, then the nurse took over. I was the last of the women to give birth, so pretty much all the on duty nurses came in, just to watch. O came out face down and it took about 5 seconds for the doctor to turn her over and tell us what she was, the longest wait of my life! I was shocked when he said girl, I was convinced it was a boy because I really wanted a girl.
He put her on my chest and she was crying immediately. It was amazing. After all that work I wasn't even tired. H cut her cord like a proud daddy and my mom was crying her eyes out. They cleaned us up and then let H's family and my dad and brother in to meet her for a minute. The nurse took a picture of everyone, I was disappointed SIL couldn't be there. I didn't think they'd allow that. We tried to get O to latch, but she wouldn't, so O, the nurse and H went off to get weighed and measured. I can't believe she's a week old today!
And now for a picture or 3 for you. Pictures will be up until about 4 EST.
Re: O's Birth Story
@goatlady12 I don't think I would be team green again. I did it for the surprise the first time but it got really hard toward the end to not know.
