I  have a bachelorette party on Labor Day weekend.  The woman putting it together has requested that we all wear something sparkly on Saturday night.  The daytime is a beer tour of Boston, then back to her place to change, then dinner at Beehive (http://www.beehiveboston.com/) and then likely out to Loretta's Last Call (http://www.lorettaslastcall.com) or something like it.  I'm not a sparkly person.  Like, at all.  I have a dress I was planning to wear.  It's not fancy, but I don't think the places are are going to are.  I need to figure out shoes.  I'm OK with buying a pair at a reasonable price, but we will be doing some walking and I don't want to spend a ton of money.  I don't know where to fit the sparkles in.  Maybe a scarf? I'd really hate to buy a sparkly dress that I most definitely will not wear again.  I have a couple of T strap sandals, but I don't think they are right for the evening?  Any ideas? I have a cute pair of wedge heels, but I don't want to look like the American flag, either.  Yellow, maybe?

Dress I was hoping to wear:

Re: NBR: Outfit Help

  • I can't wrap my head around the idea of NOT wearing sparkles.  How is this even possible??

The world would be a happier place if people wore more sparkles.

  • Sparkly jewelry? Yes.  Glitter and sequins? No, no no.  Not for me.

  • I have an entire outfit put together in my mind from my closet.  I think I need to go to this party and get my glitter on.

  • Come on down!!

Show me pictures. I might be able to suck it up for the night.  I love this girl, so I want to do what works, but I don't want to spend a ton of money either.

  • I recently had a "sparkly night" at my BFF's 30th bday cruise, and I wore a full-on glitter purple halter dress (like top-to-bottom solid glitter.... I left a trail on that boat, haha), rhinestone-covered heels, and sparkly drop earrings that hung down to my shoulder.

These were all things I just had in my closet.  #sparkleforever

  • Also, the timing on this post is hilarious... literally this morning, when I asked Ally what she wanted to wear, she said "just something sparkly."  LOL!

  • I would totallly wear my "Liza Minelli" shoes.  Actually I have at least 4 or 5 pair of shoes that would totally fit the criteria for this party.  I would have to do costume changes.

Ohhhhhh and I have the most perfect gray sequin slutty mini-skirt that would be perfect.

Now I want to go home and cover myself in glitter.

Wait, THIS is the dress you would wear for the sparkly night?!?  No no no.  You can't add sparkle to this... this is what you should wear for the daytime beer tour.  This is not a "sparkly bachelorette night" dress.

I agree.  If this dress were something like black or red, you could totally dress it up with sparkly accessories.  It will be a lot hard with the stripes because it looks pretty casual and nautical.

  • Do you have a simple black dress to wear?.  Then you can accessorize the hell out of it with sparkly jewerly, shoes, and a bag.  Even a sparkly belt.

  • I totally agree that the dress isn't sparkly.  My dress wardrobe consists of about 4 or 5 dresses that fit me right now, all about the same level of casualness. No solid black dress, unfortunately.  I have a black and white printed one, but I think it's worse that the blue honestly. Which would work for the beer tour.

Can you throw in some reasonable picture or link suggestions?  And I'm totally cool with playing up the sparkle with accessories, and a little sparkle on the dress, but I would like to get one that I would wear again, you know?  I'm a boot and sweater girl. I clean up nice, but I don't have to do it often enough to get a dress I would likely only wear once.

  • What about something like this?  http://www.avenue.com/en_US/product-variation?dwvar_341462367_color=935&dwvar_341462367_size=14%2F16&pid=341462367

More thank likely, you won't need a plus size but it's the closest I could find to what's in my head.  You could wear it with skinny jeans and boots plus a blazer for day and fancy it up with different accessories for evening.

I do need one.  I had one.  Then I had Wes, and didn't finish losing the baby weight.  This would be my first real need for one since.  It's a good excuse to buy one.  I only wish J understood the necessity of it.  ;)

    ETA: for spelling.

I find it a little weird, but not enough to get up in arms over it.

@MrsJenE.  I'm thinking between 50-100.  It doesn't buy a lot, I know. I think I have shoes that could work with a LBD.

Just happened to be the first one that came up in my search:

I think it's cute because it can be dressed up or dressed down.

  • Those are cute! I love the back on the first.

Any thoughts on ones that might be a little more flattering on the midsection? I keep finding fit and flares, but those can be hit or miss depending on where the wait hits.  I find that empire just makes me look pregnant and those aren't really plentiful these days anyway.

  • Do you have a Marshalls or TJ Maxx nearby? I usually have a lot of luck finding dreses at both and I bet you could find a really reasonably priced LBD and then go for fun, shiny jewelry and some sparkly eye shadow!

Nordstrom Rack would be great too, but we don't have one close so I onoy get to go when I am out of town.

I love the striped dress for your day time activites! It is super cute!

  • I think that telling you to wear something specific and telling you to wear something shiny are completely different.  She probably didn't think it would be that difficult, and it would be something you would have on hand or could borrow.  The last bachelorette I went to we had to wear black.

How long do you have until this shebang?

I love the last black dress that Booney posted from Modcloth -- I'd wear a black tank under it to keep the girls under control and a giant sparkly necklace.  Target has some.

  • Yep, I'm thinking of sparkly costume jewelry.  Maybe adding a sparkly belt for the right dress.  Something else maybe? I'm not sure.

I ended up buying these two and seeing if either will work.

  • I love both of those!  The strapless is probably going to be much more flexible, though.  Do you have Charming Charlie's nearby?  They have tons of cheap super sparkly stuff.  I have a glittery silver/black wrap I would totally lend you to go with that second one, haha.
