So I finished this last night. I really liked it... I think?!? LOL! Halfway through, I realized I was seriously being sullen about it. I kept thinking in my head "sigh this isn't as good as I'd hoped" and then I'd pick it up and be totally in to it. You guys, I think I am seriously still messed up over Clockwork Princess!!! Once I got over myself and just let myself enjoy it, I liked it a lot better.
Adrian was a little all over the place in this one, but I kind of liked seeing party-boy self-destructive Adrian there for a little while. That line where he says "I'm Adrian Ivashkov, the parties find me" cracked me up. I really liked Sydney in this one, she's still bad-ass Sydney. I loved my two seconds of Dimitri, hahaha
So then Adrian proposes. Biggest eyeroll ever. But then... again, I realized I was telling myself in my head it was dumb, but in reality I was getting totally into it. Their Vegas wedding was adorable! And given Adrian's angst over his parents' marriage and the fact that this was SO something Sydney would never do, but then tells her father she's Sydney Ivashkov at the end... I don't know, it totally worked. I ended up being cool with it.
Their reunion left me a little disappointed. I was pissed there was not a single sex scene. Sometimes I hate YA... I had to get beat over the head for like a page and a half on safe sex and how if a guy really loves you he won't pressure you and blah blah blah. In an adult novel this would have been solved with a one-liner... "thank God the gas they had me on made me sterile" or "good thing vampires can't impregnate humans if it's not the full moon" or something. LOL!
So overall, I had a horrible attitude about this book, but I ended up liking it.
Re: WIJFR: Silver Shadows (SPOILERS)
You are not still hungover from ID. This book just really didn’t live up to expectations. Overall, I enjoyed it.
HOWEVER...
I had some issues with it like:
Having said all that, I enjoyed it. I gave it 3 stars on GD. I really expected more out of this book. I thought the whole wedding prep and wedding scene was fantastic. There were some great one-liners, but just not as many as I was expecting given that it’s Adrian that we’re talking about here. I also really did enjoy the scenes at the re-education center.
I don't really feel as strongly as you do about Adrian giving up on her though - wouldn't it have been pretty unrealistic if he just was still magically strong, new Adrian without any sort of relapse into his old ways? Especially after he'd held it somewhat together for so long with absolutely no hope, no clue what to do whatsoever? It was a total coincidence that he takes like 5 days to lose his shit when he gets back to Court right the same time Sydney gets the gas off. I don't know, I couldn't bring myself to be mad at him.
The school thing was pretty shitty though. When Jill and Eddie tell him it was Sydney's aura painting that got him the B... awww.

Apparently when he wakes up with some other girl in his bed.... hahaha!
I did feel bad for that Nina chick, but I also kind of liked that that's what snapped him out of it.

Adrian shut her down pretty hard, though... he didn't have to be a jerk, especially considering how Rose destroyed him that one time. I wanted that scene to be about him talking about how obsessed he was with Sydney, but he never really goes there.

1) I didn't like to have to wait so long for then to get back together. Too much time apart.
2) It didn't surprise me that Adrian fell back into his partying ways, but so much slacking for checking on Sydney did.
3) It didn't mind Nina so much. In fact, I didn't think about her much, so maybe that says more.
4) The wedding was awesome. Like Lauren said, I rolled my eyes at first, but I really did end up liking it.
5) I'm really sick of vampire politics. I just want them to leave court. If I have to hear one more time about how awful humans are, I might throw the book.
6) Lissa disappointed me. For someone so progressive I was a little sad that it seemed to take her a lot to come around in the end and support Sydney. Considering what Sydney meant to her sister politically and personally, I thought it sucked.
Lastly, I tried watching VA the movie a couple of weeks before I read this and all I can see now is the terrible actress and accent that was used in the move for Lissa and I think her character is ruined for me.

This is easily my least favorite books in the series so far. Overall I think I like this series a bit better than VA (I love Adrian), but this was a disappointment. Not much more to add. The re-education thing lasted way too long. We were introduced to new characters and then *poof* they were gone. The wedding was dumb but adorable all at the same time. Lissa was a prat.
Totally saw Jill going missing on like page 2.
Hope the next book redeems itself! This wasn't terrible by any stretch of the imagination I just didn't devour it like I did with the others.
I felt like the writing was a little heavy-handed like this in a few parts actually.
