Overnight getaway with 9 month old

Hey ladies! DH is taking a week off of work (the week of Labor day) and we were thinking about going somewhere overnight. We had in mind something like Great Wolf Lodge because DS loves swimming and we could just hang out, but they're all too far away. So, if you were going somewhere overnight with a 9 month old who isn't a great napper but loves to people watch and is within about a 2 hour drive, where would you go?

Re: Overnight getaway with 9 month old

  • Lake Erie?  Not so much to go in the water, but the public beaches are pretty nice with bathrooms/concessions. There are some nice walking/biking trails.  I've heard good things about the Erie zoo as well.

  • Isn't Splash Lagoon in Erie, too?

  • Also, Waldemere is in Erie, too.  Your LO may be too small for some of the stuff, but there was a lot of water stuff for the toddler crowd.  (DS was just over two when we went.)  Way more than Sandcastle.

Or what about Idlewild, and then treating yourself to a hotel near there...or head over to Seven Springs for the evening/day after.   I bet they have something going on for Labor Day. (I would say it was probably a 30ish minute drive from one to the other.)  You could even skip Idelwild and just hit Seven Springs.  They have a pool, horse drawn carriage rides, etc.

  • We would go to Erie to go camping every summer when we were little. The Erie Zoo is a great little zoo, like PP said the beaches are very nice at Presque Isle and Waldameer Park (amusement and water park) is up there too - they have a kiddie park in the water park that was always cute.

    Yep!

We went to Presque isle last Labor Day. It was a fun little weekend trip. We camped with my parents and dd loved swimming in the pool there and we did the beach. It's also close enough to Splash lagoon that you could go there too. We took dd on a seperate trip a few months ago and she loved it.

  • We just got back from Idlewild, we had a fantastic time. We stayed at the Hampton Inn in Blairsville for $150, which included continental breakfast and 2 tickets to Idlewild (your LO is free). The hotel had a nice size indoor pool, which we mostly had to ourselves. And Idlewild has Soak Zone. They do not let hand-held infants on rides but it may be a nice way to spend the day.

  • I was going to suggest Erie as well.  We went for a 3 day trip and had a great time with the kids.  We mostly did Presque Isle (beaches, picnicking, walking, playgrounds, kite flying, fishing), but did also go to Splash Lagoon and the kids had a blast there.  Actually, DH and I had a blast too.  We took turns watching the kids in the kiddie section and did the bigger water slides.
