Thinking of changing OB/GYN's...do you love yours?
I'm currently an OGAP girl...have been since I started seeing a gyn. But, I'm thinking of switching to someone closer to home (South Hills). What scares me to leave the whole Magee scenario is that they have a great MFM department and I currently need to make another appointment with one. Have any of you seen an MFM not affiliated with Magee? If so...where? I'm a victim of advertisement and I don't even know who I would contact if I didn't call Magee...but, they must be out there! Also...the whole driving 50 minutes to sit and wait for my appointment for a lengthy time is wearing on me. And the lack of docs calling me back is annoying. I don't want to talk to nurses all the time.
Is there something better out there for someone who needs a little extra monitoring and care?
Re: Thinking of changing OB/GYN's...do you love yours?
Is your MFM person through your OB's office or separate? Can you switch one without the other? Also, is it possible to switch OB/GYN's without leaving Magee? Here's a list of providers listed on Magee's site. Bethel Park is one of them.
Are you seeing the MFM because you are expecting? (Maternal Fetal Medicine, right? If so, YAY!) If that is the case, I may be tempted to just wait it out with your current doctor until you no longer have need of the MFM, and then switch.
Your PCP may have some suggestions. You could check with your insurance company, too, to see who they recommend (and who is covered, which seems to be a crap-shoot these days!)
Ultimately, for me it comes down to how I like my doctors, how I feel like I am treated, and how often I have to make the drive, travel, etc. For once or twice a year, I would stick with a doc who I though cared well for me, and had access to the best hospitals, even if I had to drive and wait.
For more often, or if I thought I wasn't getting the attention I needed, I would switch. (Not to sub standard care just to save time....but I would be more willing to search and try out some other docs.)
Remember, just by switching now, doesn't mean you're committed forever, or that you could never go back if you decide that really was the best place for you.
Good luck!!!

In your case, I may take this as an opportunity to switch providers. If you didn't think you got the care you needed through this time, then I would start fresh with someone new. Another doc may have new insights for you. And, like I said, you can always go back or switch again.
Hugs to you and your family.
I love Dr. Jennifer D'abarno and Dr. Kevin Stocker with Washington OB/Gyn. They see patients in McMurray too. However they only deliver at Washington Hospital.
